July 2016 Meet and Run

Just to confirm, rain is the wet stuff that falls from the sky and makes puddles right? It's been a while since I've seen the stuff.

Almost all of the time when it says "rain showers" they blow through really fast and dry-out time is minimal so I wouldn't be too worried if I was camping. The trails are REALLY dusty right now so rain would be very welcome prior/during the drive.

To ...ALL

Ok...So to end any possible confusion thus far and to keep from having any going forward.

Our July Meet & Run will stay the original first posted plan and routes like we have have been doing all these previous months ..post it, plan it, run it!! no need to change what works and if not we make it work. We always have a back up plan and alternate routes if any issues arise.
There will be no side trail runs and all difficult runs or loops. There isn't any better way or route ideas being added. We will keep the morning meeting spot by the lake shops and restrooms as its presently posted on the first page.
So this should eleaviate any confusion or questions as to what is going on.

For those who would like to do any side of those alternate routes no problem no biggie that is your choice to do so on your own...maybe we will see you on the trail that day and if not then next month for our meet and run.

So with that said...I know the next question is "what about the 2wd guys or people who can't make it".. Or even for those who decide they don't feel up to the task at that point/section.... Which could possibly include myself..either way
Then at that point ..what do you do if you can't make it? Or if there is no handicap-elevator (winch) for that day? Turn around!!
I will reroute and lead that group to and thru the other route I have mapped in turquoise on the first page and regroup with the others at the end of White Mountain Trial where we will then finish out the rest of the run/day as a group.

So if there are any people that want to join or I have forgot to add to the "committed" list let me know and I will get that corrected/added and posted to the first page.
Also if anyone would like to be removed from the committed list for any reason then please let me know and I will make that adjust for you, just like always.

Thank you in advance,
Miah

Sounds good. Just a fair warning, there's nowhere to turn around at the first major obstacle. At the point where 4n16 meets 3n17, I suggest you hop in with someone at the front and take a look at it before committing to it. There's room enough to turn around at that point.

You have any pics or videos or something? I don't recall any real obstacles until the later part of the trail

Okay, this is from the 4N16 and 3N17 split. I did everything in 2wd including the rock gardens. At the point where I turn around, it's a bit off camber left hand turn. Looking at the video, it doesn't appear too bad, but it's pretty steep and it looks like I lost grip because of the sand in the corner. That's going to be the first obstacle, but I didn't go past that. I'm betting the next obstacle is the steep rocky hill right before the lookout. I'm not sure how well even with 4low we'd be able to grip trying to tow the 2wds up.

edit: for whatever reason it's only giving me a 360p quality option, not sure why it exported so low. was filmed at 1080p

Cool vid for a moment I thought you were on a dirt bike at the rate you were gapping those doubles in the first min of the vid...lol. Gettin some...

As far as the point you stopped I can see it's a start of a steep hill and that was thin layer of sand on hard pack which makes for the worst traction especially at the start of a steep hill climb...
MACT4R But me being me...I think I'm gonna have to show you what a couple 2003 2wd v6 4Runners with a couple Spartans can do right there and all the way up. HAHAHAHA mutha f**ka !! And I say that with love .
But only by looking at the video at that brief view point I would come in tight on driver side of that turn to go up, to get ahold of the rock on the left side shoulder of the trail to lesson the traction need factor on the passenger side which will also help from easily over throttling (adding pressure) to the passenger side on that thin hardpack then causing you to break traction and slipping back.
Just my .02
And not even worth that...

Would have preferred you were with me Sunday because you know your rig better than any 2wd I've seen yet. Either way, looking forward to the run and I suppose at this point we'll get you guys up one way or another.

Yeah me too it would have been a blast I see...well I'm gonna go up either sat or sun but I'm gonna run the entire planned run in reverse direction so I can run through every section of the entire planned run/route without any worries of not making it and being unable to see the other sections/obstacles we will encounter. This will also allow me to size up the 4 hill climbs on white mountain trail 1.windy point hill, 2. cal hill/has bypass, 3. suicide hill/has bypass and 4. frustration hill/has alternate route bypass all of which I will be descending but will get a clear idea whether or not I can truly make it up.

Not sure you'll make it up in reverse, there's gnarly rock in the middle of the trail you have to get over on a loose hill climb. I'd love to roll again, but I've got mods to wrap up.

That's right! I'm itching to test this Spartan locker! I think I'm gonna hit the otay truck trail by my back yard tomorrow before my sons basketball tournament and test it. Good pointers Miah!
