That gate was closed from the devastating '07 Slide Fire until two years ago but has been open since then. Really cool little alternate route up to Fawnskin area that not too many people use.

They are very capable winching rigs though!!
Plus the last group of FJ's from Calico Run were cool peeps..
And just FYI there will be no winching needed for this Mofo!!

I was thinking about gathering up some info on the whole adopt-a-trail thing..
and then post it in our SoCal section to see what all of your guys thoughts and opinions would be on having a " T4R SoCal Adopt-a-Trail" .
Since we have become such a large tight group and continue to grow with more people and new faces out every month with a consistent core group of members every month showing up religiously.
It would be cool to have a T4R SoCal stamped trail...

While we're on the subject I think it's important to remember this is a pretty narrow trail particularly in some spots where the 2wd's might have a challenge. With this in mind, I think anyone who has any doubts about making it up everything on their own should partner up with a winch/tow vehicle who will go first and already be prepared to jump out and give their partner a tug (hold the jokes) should they need it.
We did this same run last year with a couple fewer vehicles and I don't think anybody got stuck and it still took the better part of the day so we need to try keeping things moving as much as possible. Let's take our time and enjoy it, but cut the downtime where possible. See y'all Saturday.

That would be pretty cool, I've been thinking the same thing. Back when I had a lot of spare time whenever I would run up in idyllwild(used to be pretty local to me) I would pick up trash and clear the trail all the time

I was just on the Adopt-a-Trail site and there's a couple cool trails that are available - one being 2N13 (more scenic than gnarly) which is the original road to Big Bear before highway 18 was constructed (trailhead right by GVL Campground). I'm not saying we should do that one, but one like that definitely has some advantages.

Think we're actually going to be about the same in terms of trucks coming. Two things that delayed us the most last time was Jason getting lost right at the beginning, and the extended bbq lunch. Other than those two things we really didn't stop a whole lot for extended periods. Once before we started climbing, and once at the view point. Also looks like we only have 3 2wd trucks, one unlocked, so he should be closest to the winch(s) I think strapped up, the locked 2wds will be okay with someone in 4low pulling. Not sure who else besides you has a winch though.

I'm actually about to become a Weenie as well if I don't get my new water pump and belt tension pulley installed tomorrow.Thank god I started checking all my fluids and making sure all my suspension nuts bolts were all tight, and lubing all my bushings...cause that's when I spotted dried up coolant on my skids just little spurts of it it here and there..so I noticed it coming out the ends of my lower radiator hose right after the thermostat bulging and releasing the pressure also on the seal of the passenger side of the water pump is leaking..
if I would have taken it out with the heat and all of the hill climbs she would have blown for sure without a doubt!!! I would have been one angry mofo cause just got done talking about this with [MENTION=123332]Drunner97[/MENTION] at his house;...
so it came to reality what the problem was the last run. lol
Water pump not installed on time = Weenie Boy
Toyota supposed to get it in for me in the morning as I just ordered it from them over the phone, thank god my buddy is the parts manager. $200 dollar oem pump for $120 Belt Tensioner $75 got it for $40 pick up all next day.
Rockauto water pump $80 Belt Tensioner $71..wait time a week!!!
Ordering from Toyota hopefully = NOT a Weenie and having some trail fun.
