Jumps out of gear

I have a '94 T4R 4WD Manual Trans V6. If I idle at a light in 1st gear with the clutch depressed, when I release the clutch it jumps out of gear. If I shift from 2nd to 3rd at a slow speed it jumps out of gear. The other gears seem OK. The manual says the most likely problem is the "locking ball spring." Anyone have any experience with this?

I've had that problem before with my Nissan's gearbox and it was the locking ball spring. I put in a new spring and problem solved. The old spring simply didnt have the force to hold the ball in place anymore and thus prevent the stick from moving. Mine used to jump out only in low range on really steep decents, definately scared the crap out of me many a time.

I have a '94 T4R 4WD Manual Trans V6. When I shift from 3rd to 4th sometimes it feels as if the gears do not engage completely. Then, when I let out the clutch the gears grind. If I depress the clutch again and reengage the shift lever it goes into gear the on the second try. This same thing happens sometimes when I shift into 3rd. Also, sometimes when I am in one of those two gears traveling at a slow speed it jumps out of gear. The clutch pedal feels normal. Anyone else ever see this problem?

Thanks for the info. The maint. manual shows 3 or 4 ball and spring sets. The balls pop into a recess on the shafts for the individual gears.
Besides jumping out of gear, it also does not go into gear consistenly. If I shift from 3rd to 4th it feels as if the gears do not fully engage. Then, when I release the clutch it grinds. If I push the clutch in and pull it again into 4th it engages.
