Just Bought 2 4th Gen T4R's - New Guy

...Sounds real dumb but my girlfriend and I both wanted 4Runners. Just purchased both during the same weekend.

Mine: 2003 Sport V8 4WD

Hers: 2004 SR5 V6 2WD

congrats. Both look sweet. Me and my girl both have Toyota too but she has a Tundra. Cant go wrong with Toyota.
 
congrats on the new buy! that tahoe drive in a 4runner is sweet! Ive done it in my 3rd gen almost every weekend until I got into my accident 2 weeks ago which permits me from going snowboarding for the rest of the season! Welcome and have fun!
 
Tahoe was the only reason I picked up a 4WD. I haven't had a 4WD or AWD vehicle in maybe 3 seasons so this will be a big plus.

The AWD works great here in Tahoe, if you know how to drive in snow and if we get some more this winter!! If you wanna take a test drive in snow, come up next week. Were supposed to get at least 2-4 feet from Tuesday morning to Saturday morning. I cant wait!! Bring it on!! :boxer:
 
I've owned exactly 10 cars in my short lifetime and only one was not a V8. Gotta love that torque!

We have a place at Homewood but we couldn't come up this weekend. Next weekend for sure. We've been waiting for some good snow and I'm not missing next weekend.

Question: I'm assuming you engage the center diff. button the whole time you're on snow correct? Just 4Hi and center diff. engaged?

Ive only engaged my center diff once or twice and the snow was up to the V8 emblem. I think you will be just fine in 4HI. Just take it slow and be easy on the throttle.

With the V8 full-time 4WD you mostly just drive and enjoy. That lets the skid control stay active while the Torsen center diff (instantaneous slip limiting torque allocation) goes a long way toward matching the traction of a locked center. If it gets to the point where you're risking getting badly stuck in the deep stuff or you don't want the skid control (VSC) on which can reduce engine power to limit wheel slip, then it's good to be ready with the diff locked. Hopefully that button is in good working order. It should lock/unlock quickly and easily.
 
Congrats on the 4Runners. Take care of them, and they will take care of you (in a sense). I'd love to be able to buy my girlfriend a 4runner, but its not in my budget. Btw, you should consider looking into the bug deflector for her SR5. Its just my opinion, but it seems to make the car flow a little better, and it looks cool. Just a suggestion :)

Again, I'm a total newbie to this vehicle. Just to confirm: Don't mess with the center diff. button unless I'm getting deep in snow. No need for it if I'm driving on icy/slippery roads?
 
I love the V8's too. It is so sad they don't make them in more in the T4R. Now you need to cut the resenator off and install a tip of your choice. Now your V8 will sound like a V8.
