I own a lifted FJ already and have been searching for awhile for a 1st gen, finally found and picked up one. 1985 sr5 manual with 330,000 on body, 120,000 on swapped motor. Mild 4" lift on 35"at's with high steer done and fj80 tie rod ends, lockrite locker in rear. Light rust over rear fenders, body pretty straight otherwise, interior is shot but will be gutted and rebuilt soon. Perfect starting point for the build I have planned.

Thanks for the congrats, been wanting a 1st gen since high school. My plans are to build a truck that can run more difficult trails than my FJ could. I love the FJ but tired of being limited by IFS and watching wifey freak out every time we wheel cause of the cost of repairs on a new truck.
I plan on first of gutting the interior and getting either new or used seats, vinyl floor kit, building new center console and interior panels, and a full cage. I am doing a full bushing kit, new axle seals and bearings, and full tune up and fluid change this weekend. I want to throw either Allpro or TG full suspension set up at it and front and rear tube bumpers. Alsowant to do ARB lockers front and rear.I will be building some sliders and a custom roof rack for it soon also. The engine is strong but will be slowly upgrading and replacing parts and rebuilding the entire brake system and installing the Marlin hd clutch also, I also want to do the IFS steering upgrade. As for the body, gonna replace the rusting fenders and dial the rest in and shoot a single stage gloss grey over the body and top. It's gonna take some time and sweat equity but I have a vision so time to get the ball rolling.
Will definitely need to take advantage of this forum for advice and tips over time but excited to do a full build like this.

Sounds good. The console I built has been one of the biggest rewards per dollar spent on mine. With the rear heater's blower nestled inside, it really destroyed any hopes of storage. When I mounted my new seats,I set them farther outboard to gain width, and brought it up to a level to be an armrest.
Your console was what inspired me to want to build a console for mine. I plan on doing something very similar, think you could post a picture of how it looks installed? Also, what kind of seats did you use? I have been looking for original seats with no luck and want to know what other's would work. My bench is in good shape but the buckets are wasted. By the way I love your build, that's kinda how I would like mine to look.

Thanks very much, it's very functional. I've been driving without it for a week now, and I've really been missing it. I was having some issues with the twin stick for low range rubbing when in High. I'll have to re-cover it when it's done, and then, i'll sew up a shifter boot(my first sewing project), but will be glad to have it back.
