Just bought a 94 v6 4x4 5spd

That's somewhat relieving.

I had planned on getting all the fluids changed this weekend as mentioned previously, but time constraints and remembering that I know a very good mechanic who "cut his teeth on 4runners" led me to take it to him to do it. While there I asked him to look the thing all over and give it a thorough inspection. I'm picking it up this afternoon: 2 new CV axles, a re-sealed rear diff, some gear and motor oil and a timing adjustment and the thing should be running like a top. There is an exhaust leak, and the speedo is a little whiny but I can fix those myself next weekend.

Super stoked!

if youre having your timing adjusted, have your mechanic advance your timing a little bit. It will cut into your gas mileage a little but its worth it because it will give your truck a little bit of gain in power. These trucks are so underpowered :ybrick: i recommend it.

Well, there was a bit of mis-communication. I took it back into the shop to get the Timing belt and water pump serviced while I was at work, and learned that he didn't do the CV axles because he thought I told him not to. Looking at the receipt from earlier service, it didn't say anything about it. I was wondering why it was so cheap.

Anyways, I've researched replacing the CV axles and it seems easy enough. One guy's method is to lock the hubs, then turn the wheels all the way right for the driver side, unbolt the CV from the diff and slide out, opposite for the passenger side and replace. Sounds simple enough, I may do that this weekend.

After that, things should be smooth sailing barring a catastrophic failure of certain fluid containing seals that shall not be named.

CV axles will be ordered in a couple of weeks. In the meantime I've got a set of Procomp Explorer 55's that just came in with a relay kit to be installed, I've got a new antenna mast to set in and found a couple replacement washer fluid pumps in the junkyard today. The truck is driving great after getting the timing belt replaced!

The next big project for the car is eliminating the crossover pipe. I've read up on it and I think I can get it done for relatively cheap. I've got a schematic drawn up and I'm going to get some quotes from some muffler shops around seeing as I don't own a welder. I should probably start a new thread for that one, huh?
