Just bought an ORP - What tires is everyone using these days

Hopping back on the messageboards after a few years - Is there a consensus All terrain tire that everyone is using these days for good 80% daily driver 20% off road?

Is it the KO2? Size?

Thanks for the quick help - couldn't find any old threads that answer this

I don't think there's concensus. Many opinions and many options. I went through analysis paralysis for 6 months trying to decide what I wanted out of a tire. You just have to decide what you want out of a tire.

Keep in mind that all tires are a compromise. Be it price, performance, size, looks, popularity, quality, etc.

I recently ordered a new 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road that is on its way over from port as I write this. In preparation, I have ordered new tires that will be here tomorrow. I went with the BF Goodrich T/A K02 tires, in the next size up, 275-70-17. I feel as if the tires on the TRD Off-Road do not suit the trim level. I have BF K02's on my 95 Toyota Truck and love them. I also plan on buying a set for my 99 4Runner. They look great, perform well and are relatively quiet.
 
For 80% road driving, you have a lot of options. I have Terra Grappler G2's on our 2016 and have been extremely pleased with them. I think I'm going to do some Cooper AT3 pizza cutters on our new ORP though. You'll get a ton of opinions and no clear cut answer with this kind of question haha.
 
I've ran the KO2's on my last three trucks, great on road manners very quiet and the ride nice, good traction in sand and much better than mud terrains in the snow. I just put LT265/70R17C's on my new Venture and I've been impressed.
 
After some research, I went with the BFG KO2 in stock size. They come in two load ranges, so I went with the higher load range because I do some pretty extreme off road, but you could go with the lower load range if you are not crawling over big rocks.
 
Just put on my second set of KO2s, 265s load C. $780, plus install.

First set lasted 45k miles and were getting close to the wear indicators. Got a little loud the last 10k but still maintained pretty decent traction. Never had a single puncture/failure and the overall ride is pretty good....and they look great.
 
If you drive 20% off road, you'll likely be happier with a mud-terrain hybrid...20% off-road miles is a ton (200 miles for ever 1,000 miles driven). Look at the Nitto Ridge Grappler, Cooper ST Maxx, General Grabber X3.

If you are overestimating and likely more about 5% or less off-road like most of us weekend warrior types (50 miles or so for every 1,000 driven) then look more for an all-terrain like the ones mentioned so far.

Rocks - BFG KO2
Wet/Snow - Falken Wildpeak
Road Oriented - Cooper AT3
All Around - Grabber ATX, Toyo AT etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the new technology. Just caught me funny is all. And hey if they're offering free tires for testing...
