Hi I just bought my first 4R , 2003 limited forum has been of great help so far in getting the first few projects completed but a few things bugging me still
Overall I love the vehicle but having a few issues. I had it inspected by a garage I thought I could trust they gave it the all clear other than needing some brake work which I could do myself.
Unfortunetly the 4R was not in the most fantastic shape underneath. My theory is that when they decided to sell it they took it out for one good mud run and got it very stuck or even submerged .
Everything on the on the underside is heavily caked it mud clay and sand. I have been blasting it with the pressure washer for almost two weeks before I discovered the only real way to get it all off is to wipe it down by hand. So needless to say I dont have a hoist so I have been lying under the truck wiping it by hand for the last few days now and almost have it totally clean.
I also took off wheel liners, fender flares , fenders, bumpers and washed out everything as there was mud inside everything ! But was a good time to get a small amount of rust off inside of fenders and painted them up with por15 anywhere that was affected inside the fender.
Stuff I have replaced so far
most of the brake lines were rotted out
changed a caliper that was seized, and all the rotors and pads.
Previous owner had already disconnected the Xreas suspension but the springs they had in there were not in great shape and the mount was noisy so replaced both up front with KYB quick struts
Also have changed all fluids , front and rear diff and transfer case, tranny fluid , and of course engine oil.
So now that the front has new struts, focusing on the rear which when I bought it I thought moved up and down like it should but now seems to be stuck in the high position. Wondering if I could have damaged something while pressure washing but cannot seem to find anything obvious like a hose or connector. Everything seems to be in place but the truck is def stuck in the high position.
Is there anyway to manually reset the height of the rear ? Is there anything that is common to get "stuck" ?
I cannot find much on the subject, searching just come up with threads about replacing the system nothing about resetting the height
Overall still love the truck just about to tow with it and it worries me that the rear is not at proper height included a few pics , one that shows the rear is soo high ( thinks its in neutral height ) you can see light above the frame
