So i just got my 2nd 4runner...love having my yoda back totally regret selling the first one. with that being said, i do have some issues needing the expertise of yall. the fan is running all the time. i have a friend who is a mechanic and said something about some liquid in the pully or something to that affect, but he hasnt done much with runners and i am skeptical about letting anyone touch my baby without doing my research here first and not being a toyota mechanic. Also it seems to be idling king of high, like i know when you first start it up itll be a little high and then settle to normal. however mine stay just between 800 and 1000 rpms. my guess is whoever had it before me put a new belt on and it is not run around the condensor or compressor for the ac so maybe it needs to be tuned down? maybe reseting the computer or something. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

p.s. i think i have bargain shopper of the year award, 1997 sr5 4x4 only issue is the clear coat is peeling (im going to paint her anyways) with 140k for 4 grand. the guy had it listed for that and then when he got like a million hits he raised the price same day to 5 but since i called before that he let me have it...after much begging and telling him no one wants it as much as me and no one will love it like i will.

This post is a bit confusing to me.

Are you talking about the engine fan? It does turn all the time. If the fan clutch is doing its thing properly, it will be louder at cold start up and then quiet down after a few minutes.

If it is idling to high after the engine gets to operating temperature check the cable that operates the throttle body. Some people adjust this to take the slack out of it to get a better gas pedal feel. Maybe it is too tight ??????

So the belt is not on the A/C compressor? Get the correct one and install it?????

My 2001 has three drive belts.

It's idles high when it's warmed up and normal conditions. I'm not sure if the compressor works as far as the belts are concerned. And yes the cooling fan is always on. You can hear it anytime I accelerate. And it was on the whole two hour trip I drove it home when I bought it.

Ok, well see if the fan does what it should at cold start up. There is a fluid coupling clutch on the fan, so if it roars all the time and never quiets down then maybe the clutch is no good.

So the a/c compressor has no belt around it?

Check the throttle cable for the high idle.

I am in Ky. too. ( Lexington )

If it is going up the normal operating temprature would start looking into why the clutch on the fan isn't disengaging.

As for the idle; replace all the missing fan belts AND fix the clutch fan and recheck it. If it is still idling high, only then start looking at high idle issues.

Thanks for the input y'all. I'm gonna tinker some and see what I figure out. Only way too learn. I'm from Etown fellow Kentuckian
