Just curious

when your on the high way and in the left lane, and you come up on a car going much slower then you, what do you do? I hate tailgaiting, or flashing my brights at people, so i usually turn on my left blinker and hopefully the person infront of me sees this and moves over, and I feel like turning on the blinker dosen't seem as agressive as tailgating/flashing my brights. I could always pass them on the right, but growing up with European parents, its been drilled into me that you just don't do that.

I just wait and wait...until the person sees my intention to go faster than he/she is. Or i just go on the right to pass. I rarely tailgate or flash. I know that in Europe, you do the left blinker thing +/- honking your horn or flash.

Well, keeping in mind that you are in america and people here are aholes on the road, you either don't pass, or use the highbeam. But for me, most of the time highbeaming doesn't do anything anyway so i tend to go around them

But in short. You are in america, gotta do what americans do.

Good luck out there brudda

Americans have no clue about lane dicipline. I just go around them.

What they SHOULD do, is move their slow booty to the right lane where they belong...but most folks think they can just ride the hammer lane (aka fast lane) for miles and miles.

Thats ok tho, you could be here in the Great Empty (Montana aka MT) where they don't require retesting of drivers to renew a license! I have driven in Manila, Phillippines and would rather drive there! Only two rules: 1) Don't get caught. (Even if you are doing nothing wrong...long story there!) 2) The guy with the bigger vehicle and more dents goes first!

i like to go around them-give them a dirty look while passing by then cut them off real close.... all those years of being in rush hour traffic doesnt teach you to be a nice driver =P -just an aggressive one :D

I often think (while driving) that if I had millions of dollars, I would create an entire ad campaign in my state on keeping to the right. There would be billboards, tv and radio ads, and incentives for police that ticketed the most abusers.

I usually keep going my speed until I am right up on them, then give them a little space. If they are paying attention, they will often move over first chance they get. Then if they do not, I pass them on the right and cut right back in. I always check my rearview to see if they get the hint. Most of them do and move over.

I see it as a public service, as these people may be more attentive to this the next time they drive.

yea, the left blinker dosen't work all to well..but i'll tell you what does work well when someone is tailgating... my rear facing emergenly lights.....they slow down and keep they're distance hehe.

Interesting thing my dad pointed out to me today when were talking about this... in Portugal the speedlimit on the highway depends on the lane... left lane is 120 midde is 100 right is 90... and addiontaly minimum speed is 100 in the left

I give them a few seconds and then flash the highbeams to get them to move over....I hate passing on the right, but if I'm in a big enough hurry or really pissed off I will.

I too wish people in North Am. could fifure out the lane system...it's just not that hard.

Gryphon,
This is a very small world indeed I also drove in Manila , Phils. for a lot of years and also the countryside. I know exactly what you are talking about. I may add that the three colors on the traffic light means like this.
Green means go , Yellow means hurry up and Red means don't get caught , at a four way stop whoever stops first is chicken and hence the last one to cross the intersection.
Now with regards to Montana a few years back I drove there and love that no daytime (take note daytime) speed limit. A state trooper had to remind me the no speed limit is effective only during the daytime this of course after pulling me over at nighttime. :awais: :awais:

I like to get right up behind them and if they don't like seeing me in their rear view mirror right on their bumper, I start flashing my lights at them. The turn indicator only works on the Autobahn where the law requires you to move over when you see the blinker.

If that doesn't work I get real mad and figure I can be as big a jerk as they are and I pass on the right. As I go past I give them a real big nasty face. Then I cut them off by getting right back in the lane almost hitting them.

Maybe I can get them to slam on their brakes out of fear that I might be mad enough to possibly hit them. Then the guy who is tailgating them might run into the back and even cause an accident.

Serves them all right as I have places to go and people to see and I have every right to be a jerk too. No one has the right to make me go slower than I want to go. I really like to follow someone who is only going 72 when any fool can see that 76 or even 80 is a better speed. After I pass them I slow down to about 73 and let them tailgate me for a while just so they can see what it feels like.

Darn slow drivers. I really hate it when later on I get off the freeway and at the bottom of the offramp while waiting for the light to change they come cruising up behind me and laugh. If they had only moved over earlier I could have made that light and I would have been ahead of them still.

Sometimes at the light I look to the left as I come down the ramp and when I get to the bottom I don't even slow down, I just make the turn without stopping.

But I just gotta say that sometimes I just tailgate and get mad for MILES as it makes me real angry and when I get home I'll be in the mood to yell at the wife and kids.

See YOU on the 101 at 5:30!!!

Peace

What you should do is take everyones advice here.

Try the blinker,
Try the passing on the right thing,
Try the high beam,
Make a nasty face when passing,
Honk your horn vigorously,
Try them all together

When the time is right - pitching a penny is fun.

See what works better for you.

I just don't drive in the left lane all that much. You'll see me poking about in the right two lanes. I just don't like driving fast, it's more stressful for me. Plus, in traffic the left lane is usually the slowest because everybody keeps merging into it thinking they're going to go faster.

But, when I do use the fast lane, I wait them out until I get pissed off, then I just pass them. I gotta admit, the blinker thing is pretty interesting. I think most people here would just think some idiot left their blinker on.

I come up on them keeping a safe distance, and wait a short period (20 sec.). Then I pop them with high beams. If they don't respond, this tells me that they are saying "To bad I

I tend to drive in the Right Lane with the cruise set on 73 and only pass when I am in danger of turning off the cruise. It is just better on gas mileage and my blood pressure. However on occassions when driving from Columbus to Cleveland on 71 (Everyone is an ahole on the road) I will tend to get up on someone's rear to get them over. (I usually leave them alone if they are snow cappers...don't want to scare them.)

I will tell you that I freaking hate it...

...when I am going in the Left lane and passing people by about 3-5 mph and some ahole comes up on my rear at 100 in his little POS wanna be sport car and gets pissed that I am only passing at this speed. Chill out, you'll get around me.

...when I am driving on a 3 lane highway and some ahole comes out of nowhere going close to 100 on your right side while you are about to switch lanes to the right and you don't see them. (I think the puzzys do this to avoid the left lane radar from the statees) almost killed me and my wife once. I fricking flipped and tried to run his ass off the road on the next exit. Don't fluck with my wife!

...when a person can't see around me to notice that the person in front of me is holding me up in the left lane and there is no where to go...they ride my azz like it is my fault.

in my younger years, i would have passed the person on the right and then like a self admitted a**hole, try and cut them off. i was stupid back then, real stupid. driving on the NJ Turnpike was a big race to me.

then i decided to drive slower and realized it was waaaay more relaxed and less stressful. i was one of those idiots in-and-out of traffic. :driving:

that said, usually i like to cruise in the center or right lane. but if i come up on someone going slower than i in the left lane, i give them a few seconds. if they don't move and i can pass them on the right, that's what i do. sometimes i'll pull into the left lane a little close so they get the message that they should be out of there. if i can't pass, i'll just wait until the opportunity arises for either them to get out of the way or i can pass them.

I just gently...mash my foot on the accelerator, whip into the right lane, fly up along side them, cut back into the left lane (missing the car by inches), and jamb on the breaks. :D

...OK, so I just follow them, but I dream of doing all that other sh*t.

My buddy installed a pair of super bright strobe lights in his headlight housings and flicks then on for a quick second or two whenever he's behind a slower driver in the left lane. Works great - anyone and everyone thinks he's a cop, especially at
night.

Ok, it's not exactly "legal", but it gets the job done and noone is offended, flipped off, cut off, high beamed, etc!

I was thinking about doing the quick easy cheap mod myself, even if just for shitz n giggles..... just looks cool.

has anyone done this with a 4th gen yet? I know that my friend had to drill 1 small hole in the back of each headlight housing to insert the small bulb. That part seems risky to me if it doesn't work out too well, but in a reflective housing, I'm not sure that you actually can go wrong?

Yeah, that will work great, right up until he tries that on an unmarked police car. :awais:
