Just Found - **Slight Issue**

I just purchased a 2005 Limited V8 with only 22,800 miles. Looking to install a grill guard (Hunter?), Hanma LED 30" strip, Husky floor mats & rear tray, and a Perkins Cargo Rack...any suggestions and/or comments are welcome.

I'm curious if anyone has had luck with installing the 30" light bar in the lower valance on the front bumper and have photos? Also, with only going after a grill guard, is Hunter the best choice for fitment and price? Will most likely keep it fairly stock aside from the exterior add-ons.

I'm looking forward to joining the community and learning more with every login.

Are you wanting the bar mounted in place of or behind the lower valance? hojeepster installed one in place of the lower valance. I have a 30" I'm going to mount behind it. I currently have a 13" bar mounted there until my 30" gets here. Don't have any pics, it's still a work in progress. I can get some if you'd like though. This is where i got the idea for the mounts. I made L brackets similar to those but facing the opposite way. I have a piece of angle iron bolted to the brackets (on top of the upside down L) and the 30" bar bolts to that.

Awwwwe, that's a great idea! I'd be interested to see how they would mount behind the valance. However, I did just notice another thread that showed exactly what I was looking for...if your results behind the valance look like what I'm after, the incognito-look, I'll go for that, if not, I'm sure they'll work fine in the valance that is sectioned out. Thanks for the link and idea!

It's dark out now, I'll try to snap a couple pics tomorrow and will post them here.

What are your thoughts on the Hunter grill guards normally found on eBay? Are they worth their salt compared to it's rivals?

Not familiar with those in particular. My guess is they are like most other bull bars, good for looks but offer little if any protection (and sometimes multiply damage), so i guess it depends on what your goal is.

Well, I would like to offer the deer on the roads instant death without the same deal put towards the 4runner...with most of the grill guards only having two points of connection at the bottom of the bumper, I fail to see that offering much protection. However, a full bumper replacement seems to leave a lot of hardware and linkages below exposed and one would need to add more protection in the form of skids. Are there any options available without a full bumper replacement? I'd like to not spend $1500+ to have protection right now, granted the money saved on headlights, fenders, and hood could have a higher chance of survival upon any impact...Hmmmmmm

Thanks for the options and advice....I'm personally not a fan of the police push bar but will continue the search for a reasonable brush guard.

1mm thick is, well, not thick...roughly 25.4mm per inch; nonetheless, thank you for the example.

Does anyone have any reservations on the brush/grill guards they currently have? Pics? Any rattles or movement once installed?!

The picture quality from my phone sucks, but here's a few quick pics. I plan to add two center brackets, paint, and install with the 30" bar this weekend. I'll get my digital camera out and take better pics with it on and off the rig. Hope these help for now.

Wow! Looks great! The incognito look is subtle and perfect! No rattling or light movement either?!

I haven't noticed any noise or movement yet, seems very solid. I had a 30" mounted on my roof rack but it shook to much and that was one reason i started looking into mounting in the lower grill. I haven't been off road at night yet and only used it a few minutes on road, so that could change. Hope to go test it out this weekend if i get everything finished up.

I did find a picture from when i test fit the 30" bar. The bar wasn't mounted or aimed in this pic, just sat in there to see how it'd work.

I like the placement of the lights. I'd only hope that snow and mud wouldn't impede its performance too much. I look forward to the final product and photos! Thanks for sharing!

Where in the PNW do you live? You might be able to see all the things you are planning (front brush guard, 30" led bar, Perkins rack, husky floor mats) in person if you are close to Seattle.

HOJeepster welded tabs on the cross member to mount the light bar:

T4Runner13 runs a Waag front grill guard (he was planning to upgrade last time I spoke with him):

And I'm the only one that I know of running a perkins rack in WA....for now.

Wow! I work in Snoqualmie and live in Maple Valley. I'm curious on HOJeepster install and I'd LOVE to, ahem, look into T4Runner13's WAAG grill guard and actually see your Perkins Rack in person!

Cool. Snoqualmie meaning the summit?

HOJeepter is leaving WA at the end of this month. I'll check with him what his schedule is for the next few days. I might be meeting up with T4Runner13 in the next week or so over in Bellevue. I'm in and around the area so you can see my truck anytime.

Well, not the summit but the actual "town." The summit is a mere 25 miles away...

Yeah, that would be stellar if you could check with HOJeepster before he heads out...if he's still planning on replacing it of course.

Weekends tend be better for me but even that's a maybe being on salary...however, we should meet up sometime.
