Just got done with the FJ suspension swap..question..

I got the front done yesterday, and the rear done today..the guy that was doing it brought me back and showed me that the rear shocks are about 3 inches to short..so he had to fully extend them...he said if they extend anymore, they would bust...but I got the FJ coils and shocks..so im a little confused on why the shocks in the rear were "too short" he said...it looks and feels great while driving though! Very very pleased ..as I knew I would be..just didnt know if anyone else that had done the swap experienced this or not..thanks

I just put rear Tokicos off an fj on mine, I didnt have any probs with the length of the shocks

I'll check it out today on my break at work ...and make sure he chaged out the shocks correctly...I figured the same...If I look back and if the Tokiko label on the rear shocks is blue..i'll be pissed!!!

the shocks are changed out correctly..used to be blue ones in the back..now the tokiko label is orange..just to clarify..those are FJ shocks correct? I just dont want to do anything that will damage the suspension on my T4R

thats them...im currently at work so wont be able to get the rear shocks part #'s till after I get off ...but I just ran out there and checked..the numbers are facing hte inside of the wheel..so I will have to take the rear wheels off to get the part #s

I know FJ springs are different for 4wd and 2wd. The 4wd's are longer. As far as I know, 2wd's and 4wd's use the same shocks though. I was thinking IF 2wd shocks were shorter like the springs are, 2wd shocks AND 4wd coils, it could possibly result in this situation. I'll do some looking online at part numbers to see if 2wd shocks are the same as 4wd shocks.

I'm 100% sure they are 4WD shocks from an '07 FJ. Met up with the owner who swapped them out to install a lift kit less than 6 months after he bought it (new).

How can you tell if the springs are 4x4 or 2x4? I see tons of 2wd 4runners upgrading suspension I'd have to assume there's a handful of FJ cruisers doing the same. Maybe some jackass selling his 2wd springs as 4x4 so they'd actually sell. I'd hate to go through all the work to change springs to find out they're not even 4x4 length.

I just thought about this...but of the 4 FJ shocks I have, does it matter which ones go in the front and rear? I wouldnt think it would matter...just trying to figure this out

Front and rear are a completely different setup, they are not interchangeable. On the fronts the coils are mounted on the shock itself and the rear has separate coils. Having the fronts/rears swapped wouldn't be a possibility as they mount differently as well.

oh ok...well dang...well i get off work today around 1230 EST..so not much longer..once I do, I'll go home and take off those rear tires and get the part numbers to the shocks..it was a little dark last nite lol

ok ..the part number is 48530-35110...i looked it up and they seem to be correct..is it possible the guy on the fj forum that I bought the rear springs off of ...that those springs are for 2wd? or are the coils different sizes for 2wd and 4wd?

just went back and saw this..nevermind my last post i guess...im apparently scrummaging for every solution..so the coils wouldnt make a difference in the shock being to short..my bad

2wd coils are shorter than 4wd coils. The problem is that your rear shocks are fully extended. The shorter 2wd coils wouldn't cause this issue, it'd be the reverse.
