Just got me a oldschool 4runner!!!!

So I just got me a old 4runner its a 92 but its only rwd :/ but I plan on having a little fun with it still. Not sure where I should start I've been a car guy my whole life not really trucks. I know it needs tires but want a beefy tread and not sure what I should go for, plus I want a small lift but have no idea where to start want to put least expensive type of kit any help???

Hello and welcome, J! Good looking truck--too bad about the 2WD, but you can still have a lot of fun with it. A lot of guys here like the Goodyear Duratracs; I've always been a BFG guy myself, preferably the Mud T/A. For some extra clearance, I'm not sure what's available for the 2WD, but it should be similar pickings as the 4WD. Maybe a simple OME (Old Man Emu) system--they're top quality, just a couple inches higher, and not terribly pricey. Since it sounds like you want to play a bit, I would recommend a locker in the rear to aid your traction. Have fun!

Also what's a good tire size want that beefy look with out the rubing too much


Would really like to take small jumps in it!!!! A decent set of shocks but still decent price if possible, Rancho shocks any good?

You can get the locker at many of the better Toyota sites like Marlin Crawler, Trail-Gear, Low-Range Offroad, etc., plus sites like Randy's Ring and Pinion. For tires, 33's give the Runner a nice look without going too ballistic, and you can either lift a few inches to clear, or some of the guys on here like to pound out the fenderwells and leave it at stock height. Rancho shocks are excellent quality items. I'd get on the "classic" section and search for the tire clearance mods--my personal preference is a small suspension lift, maybe combined with a 1" body lift. Ask around the "classic" section--there's lots of good advice to be had there. Best of luck!

p.s. With 33's, you will want to regear as well, or you will feel a definite drop in power. 4.88's work well for that size tire.
