Just Got My First Dent, and I'm Not Too Happy...

I'll start by saying that it could've been much worse, since it's in a place that will rarely ever be seen. That being said, my 4Runner has less than 300 miles and is essentially brand new, so I'm kind of pissed.

I was just driving down the road past a cemetery at about 40 mph, minding my own business. Then, I heard a loud thud on my roof and my two year old son said "what was that Dad?" Since I was driving under some huge oak trees, I knew exactly what it was. When I finally got to my stop, I got out and looked at my roof... sure enough, that damn acorn put a ding in my roof!

Searching around, it doesn't look all too uncommon for acorns to damage cars. Any of you guys ever have something like this happen?

Never, but I have hit a deer, been hit in a parking lot and had 3k of hail damage. At least it's the roof.

My T4R Prem was just about 2 weeks old when I was driving on a small country road on a very windy day. I heard a loud boom. It was a walnut which hit almost dead center on the roof in the front where it curves down to the windshield. The dent can only be seen when looking along the roof line from the side. A little further back and I believe it may have blown out the sun roof.
A chip and dent fix was included with my warranty from the dealer, and they said they would fix it. After finding out they would have to take out the overhead console and possibly part of the headliner to fix it from the inside, I decieded to leave it as is. Didn't want to take a chance on them screwing up the way things may fit when put together.

Shit happens which is why we have insurance. Sucks that it happens to a new car but not much can you can do for stuff like this. If this is a road you frequently drive and don't want to risk it happening again, get yourself a roof rack and you shouldn't have the problem any more. 2 months after I got mine, I got a huge rock chip on my windshield driving in the mountains and because we get lots of snow around here and they put down lots of gravel and pebbles, it was a no brainer for me to get windshield protection. Took it to the dealer and they took care of the chip.

You will get bigger dents than that from the first mall parking lot you go to this season.

When my 4R was just 2 weeks old I backed into another car and put a ding and some scratches on the back bumper. I was pissed for about a week then I got over it. Dings and scratches are going happen so getting the first one out of the way has actually helped me enjoy my truck more without worrying about the little things.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, I guarantee you’ll be the only person to ever know that ding is there :thumb:

Me too.............5 1/2 years of ownership, not a single door ding, took just one deer this past August to do almost 10K in damage :mmph:

Scratch and Dent

So, apparently I look at this a little differently. I bought my 4Runner on 11/06 brand new 2017 TRD off road on 11/18 less than two weeks later I took it off road. and doing a bit or light rock crawling I got my first bit of trail damage, the departure angle was not adequate, or rather my driving wasn't. so on the right (passenger) rear of the car, kinda got to stoop down to actually see it, I have some pretty nasty scratches, which since getting them I have "shown off" to everyone that is willing to look. Kind of like a badge of honor, her first battle scar if you will. Maybe I am looking at this all wrong, but I am not at all sad about my first scratch/dent.

First dent is always the most heartbreaking. I dented mine with the fin of a paddle board and was bummed about it for a few weeks. After I got my second dent, it wasn't as bad. Then I went 4 wheelin and got some racing strips....You get the picture. Time heals all wounds.

Bright side is that now you can get that aftermarket roof rack you always wanted .

I got a dent on my hood just above headlight from a pine cone. That day was rainy and windy, I just got bad luck.

If it bugs you, have paintless dent repair done on it. Reasonably priced and those guys work wonders.

If dents bother you, then taking it off road may not be a good idea. As someone already said, The first one is the hardest...

Use Paintless dent repair. Some guys use glue pullers when they can't access from behind. I put a dent in mine when it was brand new. It was Right above the driver side, third window. I had to call around. Three guys said they couldn't fix it, and I finally found one that used glue. 80 bucks and it's 99% gone. You can also buy your own kit online, but I think it takes some practice to get it right.
