Just got off the phone with the stealership.....

They wanted $1200.00 to replace a flange gasket at the driverside manifold,crossover connection! Are they out of their mind. I going to do it myself ,or have a muffler shop cut out the crossover pipe and fabricate a y pipe. What do you think? Shouldn't cost more than $400 to have exhaust shop do the fabrication right?

Ive found most muffler shops wont mess with your manifolds for fear of breaking em. but some probably have full shops....


If you got the tools do it your self. its money in your pocket.

The one I'm going to is a full shop. What if any specialty tools do I need to do it myself.
? I was thinking that loosening the. driver side manifold would be the easiest way to do it.looks like the passenger side manifold is harder to get to. your thoughts ? Thanks

What exactly is wrong with yours? is the gasket worn out or is your pipe messed up. If its just the gasket its easy.


Never had a 4runner with a v 6 (so I don't know your clearance issues) but as a general rule the less you have to take off the motor the better. Manifold bolts break, alot. If you are unsure, better pay a pro to do it.

are we talking bout the gaskets that connect the manifold to the Y pipe? If we are you'll need

a ratchet
long extensions
a universal joint adapter
deep well socket
a gallon of penetrating spray

Spray those bolts like the night before and don't be shy with the stuff.

I've already sprayed it. Its The gasket that connects the manifold to the crossover pipe . If I remove the three studs on the crossover flange will there be any play or must I take the thee studs out from the passenger side manifold - crossover connection to have some play to put new seal in?

I dont know. I would suggest taking off the nuts of the one you are working on and see if you can change it. if not, loosen the other and try again ect....


Its about a 3o min job on a 22re.

Went in to tackle the manifold leak and found that all three studs on crossover- manifold connection were hand loose and I tighten them all up and there is no more leak LOL. What a relief .
