so theres was this noise under my truck that drove me crazy and found out it was my bracket that mounts right under the transer case. couldnt find it anywhere so i make a trip to my local dealership and find out that only the bracket (part number 3318335050) is a whopping 355 dollars!!! yeah right im paying that much for a bracket. so what i end up replacing it with is a similar but slighty smaller counter weight from a 2nd gen.

I think he's talking about the harmonic balancer (or transfer dynamic damper). It is this...

Correct?

You might be able to put some gasket material in there. Not sure how that would affect it's damping effect, but I'd think it would quiet it.

And I thought I had rust! Damn.

Hehe, I knew that'd draw some comments. It looks bad, but all that is just surface rust, not nearly all the way through. I am in the process of cleaning and POR-15ing it all and it will be fine.

The back behind the rear axle was definitely more than just surface rust. I am surprised my bumper doesn't just fall off.

Interesting, mine makes a terrible clank noise too offroad. I figured I was the only one. Is that thing absolutely necessary to have on there?

I've used windshield urathane on motor mounts before, maybe try pushing some of that stuff in, its like 10$ a tube at a glass store.

correct. damper is what it's called. and as far as the noise kinda sounded like a cricket. but only when I had my foot off the pedal. I figured as I accelerated, it reduced vibrations and when I didn't It would shake.
couldnt really stick anything in there because the rubber piece was tearing already.

IIRC, some guys have taken it off, and I seem to remember some guys complaining that they had some excessive shaking after removing it. I think they felt the shaking through their j-shifters, but I read about it a long time ago and can't remember the specifics.

I removed mine a while ago when i bent it up after getting high centered. I do get some vibration while decelerating. I was going to replace it until i saw the three hundred plus dollar price tag on it. Now i am waiting until i find one in a junk yard, still no luck though.

I have one. In good shape too. No rust. $35

The funney thing is the Tundra\Sequoia with the V8 must run much smoother. It doesn't have this damper or the one on the Muffler.

I thought about re-installing it on my conversion but tossed the idea realizing how smooth she runs.
