Just Installed Aftermarket Deck

I just got my runner a month ago and the cd player already took a **** not even a month after owned it 2004 SR5. Replaced it with a Sony XAV-64BT and was worth doing the install myself. I figured pulling the console out would be a pain in the ass but it wasn't bad at all. Anyone who is scared to do it go for it! Mine was non JBL, non factory amp so i just wired it up to the existing harness. One thing i want to point out is that the installation brackets they gave me wouldn't bolt in properly or should i say the bolts/screws provided with the Sony were not long enough so i took a drill, barely opened the hole with a bit on the aftermarket deck where it mounts and made it big enough to screw in the factory brass screws that go into the factory deck. Just a little tip for those who wonder how to do it. The deck is nice and tight. Been doing installs since 15, now im 32 still enjoy it :)

Nice job! What made you pick that head unit?

I have a 2005 Sr5, and I have really been thinking about replacing the head unit. For as much as I care about listening to music, I really think I should be past using a cassette adapter.

I had this same unit in my Lexus IS300 and i really liked it. Has backup cam, bluetooth, built in speaker phone. Works great with pandora and usb for iphone or flashdrive. It's a great unit, the picture for dvd is very clear i wouldn't expect anything less from Sony. Only problem i had with my old one was that is was noisy if it was very good outside until it warmed up. Might have just been the particular unit i had because this new one don't do that. Besides that works great. Yeah im happy with how it sits in the dash.

A new head unit has been said to go a long way with the jbl setup. I am not sure about with a no jbl setup. If you want search on threads, I did a build thread on complete audio overall on my jbl setup. I'd like the thread but I'm driving and on my iPad ATM. Lol

As far as the 2-way or 3-way, it depends on what setup you wish to achieve. I've seen a few on here cut in new holes in the rear doors to install another set of component speakers. There are options no doubt.
