Just installed CD/MP3 chgr on NAV!!

FYI Kids!

Just installed the NEO 10 disc changer with MP3 on my Solara NAV and it works great! Not an exact fit in the center console though! I also had to wait for the company who makes the NEO CD changer to send me the newest version of their interface box.

Install was fairly easy. I had to cut a notch vertically in the center console for it to fit. Interfaces fine with the Solara NAV unit but requires the Toyota wire harness which is $13.00.

I bought the changer at Best Buy but now I do not see it on their web site!! Not sure whats going on there.

Not really much to see actually. Just imagine a light blue faced CD changer sitting in your center console! (Sorry don't own a digital camera.);-)

I'm ripping MP3 disc's for it now. gotta go.
 
Does the MP3 text show up on the Navigation screen? That would be way too cool!!

DO you have the part number for the cable required?

No unfortunatly the text does not show up on the screen. I will find the part number for the Toyota harness/spliter and post it asap. To be honest I really dont care if it shows the titles. I'm just happy to have MP3's for hours of driving pleasure!

I've run into a new problem. I don't own enough good music to fill up 10 CD's w/mp3's!
 
Changer was $236.99 plus tax and a $10 mail in rebate through Best Buy.

The toyota harness is part number 08695-00370.

The changer opens up some cool features on the NAV unit for scanning through songs, Disc repeat, and others all on the touch screen.

I ran the changer through some tests with some various MP3 disc's. It will play disks with songs in separate folders but it takes a while for it to scan through the folders. SSI America suggests to just put the MP3's on the root of the disk for best performance. It seems to play all the bit rates without a problem.

My RSA still works with the changer (connection split with toyota harness for changer) but the RSA cannot access the changer. It can still access AM, FM, and the single disc player in the NAV unit. I can only assume that since they both share the same BUS connection that it is impossible for them to talk to each other.

Sound quality is just as good as the single disc player in the head unit.

With my Solara Nav in my Sienna I also have the rear seat entertainmnet (DVD) so I wanted to know which connector(s) you have to tap into or use to get the changer to work. I assume its the connector on the attached photo that Jack has labeled "R14? RSA/XM". If not then which one is it?

Could you by chance document which pins are being used on this connector? Color of wires might come in handy also.

Sure I will but it will be a while (days). tearing a 4runner dash apart is not as easy as a sienna. It takes about 45 min. and I just got it all back together last night.
 
FYI on the CD Changer...

I just noticed that the changer has some bugs! So don't order it yet!

1. The NAV diagnostic fails (but it does see it)

2. Sometimes the changer causes the NAV unit to lock up

3. When switching to disc 10 it plays the music but does not show disc 10 or the time on the nav display.

I wrote SSI America an e-mail on these issues so we will see what their response is.

Yes it does. Same plug for Rear Seat Audio which you probably have.
 
I just got off the phone with SSI America. The tech told me that the disk 10 not showing up in the display is normal? Go figure.

The problem with it failing in the diagnostic is another problem. He said he opened a trouble ticket on this issue and told me to call him back in a week so he could get his hands on a Toyta NAV system.

I'll keep you updated. So far i am very impressed with their service. They sound like they actually care, but we will see.

That disc 10 not showing up doesn't sound normal. It's more like a bug. Kinda reminds me of Microsoft's "This is by design" when they encounter a bug they can't fix.

Does the diagnostic fail consistently everytime? The diagnostic in my Sienna would occasionally fail the RES test, probably due to the RES busy trying to read the DVD.

i have a question...on ebay i bought the actual toyota oem 10 disc changer, for only 199.00, it has everything i need if i am not mistaken to plug it right into the Solara nav....so your saying it will plug into the r14 spot?
