Hey guys new on here and just purchase me a used 05 4 runner v8 sports edition yesterday, took it for a grand price of 11,900 with 118k miles what ya think? lol car runs quiet n super smooth and plenty of power, has a good carfax history but one thing that I couldn't find was if the t belt and water pumps been replace, how long would guys let it go before replacing the t belt? Is there a way to peek at the belt to find out if its been replaced? It has a pretty good mantinace record but I can't rely on it because it doesn't state that the t belt was replaced.

Also what are some pro n cons of these vehicles so I can know what to expect if something bad pops up! Thanks

First off congrats on owning a 4runner. I also have an 05 sport edition v8. Its by far my favorite in the driveway. As for the timing belt I changed mine at 90k. Im not sure where i read that either in my Haynes manual or service manual. There is a plastic cover on the front of each head that covers the belt. If its easy enough to remove you can check the belt there. With the 4.7 being an interference motor dont wait too long to change the timing belt. The biggest negative with your 4runner is the x-reas system. I recently replaced mine with the toytec ultimate lift. Rides great and looks better than stock. I highly recommend that as a must do mod. So far I'm at 102k with no major issues to report. I don't think you'll have much to worry about with yours either.

Thanks, btw are there any good online stores to purchase oem t belts and water pumps and such to replace?
 
A lot of guys on here will tell you go OEM on the timing belt. Me personally I bought my kit offof eBay but I did my homework and got parts made by aisin, denso and other Japanese OEM parts manufacturers. I've also seen a bunch of people buying from rock auto and having good luck with them.
 
RockAuto Parts Catalog seems to be a good place to purchase replacement parts of all kinds. Congrats on the new runner.

If the belt was replaced at a dealer then there is likely to be a sticker somewhere explicitely stating that it was indeed replaced and labeled with the milage at the time of replacement. My sticker was placed in plain view on the intake manifold.

The long and short of it is that because the engine is a disruption type timing, if your belt goes out your going to need a new engine. Insurance or not it will be a hassle to replace. Best spend the money to know it's done. then you don't have to worry about it for another 100K.
