Just looking for your thoughts on mileage

Hey, forum noob here and finally hit 15 posts.

Just wanted your thoughts on a Limited I'm looking at.
2016 w/ 33k.
Carfax shows length of ownership 1yr 4mo.
Seems like a lot to me but this will be my first 4runner so your opinions will mean a lot.
There are some other cars I wouldn't consider with this kind of miles/ownership but feel less worried about a 4runner even though I've never owned one.

It's probably a lease trade in. These are arguably the most reliable SUV on the road today. I wouldn't sweat it.

To put that many miles on in a short amount of time generally indicates they were highway miles. While all miles create wear and tear, highway miles are typically less abusive to the vehicle.

As is with any used vehicle and regardless of miles, it is worth the cost to get it checked out thoroughly before making a purchase.

1. You're basing your concern on a Carfax report, which may-or-may-not be the most reliable of resources.

2. 33K? Don't sweat it. Your only real concern is if proper maintenance was performed, which, realistically, is OCs.

Who is selling it? If it's a Toyota dealer, it should be eligible for a CPO warranty.

I don't normally like "should I buy" posts because it's ultimately their money and decision, but this one is over 3 hrs away from me and I'm trying to get all info I can, especially on a used one.
I'm shopping another one too and this feels like cramming for an exam when I was in college LOL.

4wd or 2wd? Seems like a low/good price for 4wd. Probably about average for 2wd.

Not sure there's much risk if it's a CPO.

In either case, it won't last long on the market.

I purchased my first, 3'rd gen (preowned certified) 4Runner SR5 on Jan 4'th, '02 with 'EXACTLY' 40,000 miles on it. To be sure that I wasn't making a huge mistake, I also bought the extended service warranty for 1,000 bucks... turns out that I didn't need the extended warranty.

I kept that vehicle for 6 yrs; put about 30,000 additional miles on it, then sold it to my brother-in-law in '07 and he still uses it as a daily driver to this day and it hasn't given him one bit of trouble... and it still looks great; here's the truck when I first got it:

Unless you are dead set on a limited, you are near the price of a new non-limited/non-TRD pro model.

Surf CarGurus.com for what others are paying. They list new and/or used.

I would continue to shop and do you homework...

I just bought my 2018 Magenetic Gray 4runner TRDOR $37,500 before TTL. Came with Wilderness Package which included Softex seats, moonroof/sunroof, turn signal lighting on rear view mirrors, TRD all weather rubber floor mats, and a rubber cargo tray for the trunk.

Like what others have said, 33k miles on a 2015 is still pretty good especially if those were just highway mileages. The maintenance services on carfax did seem a little skeptical though but shouldn't be a problem if Toyota CPO'd it. Best of luck!

What I get from my experience and from others on this forum any 5th gen 4Runner easily runs over 100K without any problems or with some minor issues if you're not lucky. Buying used is always a lottery though, carfax often doesn't show true car history and dealer will never tell you the truth.

rigtec. Clean, stock (assuming) vehicles look great, not just 4runners. That look awesome.

magnetic, I definitely thought about the maint intervals too. CPO and syn oil made me feel better about it but I might be trying to self justify it. sigh.

I've gone through the same buying decisions as so many others on here. Being honest with myself I've come to realise I have no realistic use for the elocker although I like the multi terrain select. It's just that value for dollar, awd, vented seat, etc have make more sense for my usage.
At this price, there are limiteds like this or new TRDOR non premium in my area. Another thing I was weighing for a long time.

It does sound like a lease turn-in to me. Used the free OCs at 10/20k and skipped it 'til the turn in. The CPO (IMO) is a biggie.

That's the service schedule. Oil change at 5k & 10k (engine break in) then every 10k after that.

yeah, i know the one you're looking at is a Limited, but that price is so close to buying new that personally i'd just buy a new one and get exactly what you want. good luck!

If you really want a limited i think it's a good deal $35-36k with cpo warranty. I however would not buy an extended warranty on top of the cpo. As others have mentioned if you just want a 4runner Sr5 premium and trails can be had new for about the same. A new 4wd limited I would guess at $40k?

Am I missing something? Won't the Carfax state if it was a leased vehicle?
I bought mine as a Toyota CPO and the Carfax stated it was a lease trade-in.

Being leased, it was in pristine condition, low miles, and had all maintenance records.

Well, pulled the trigger on it. I had almost bought 3 other t4r in the last 4 weeks and walked out on all of them. This was by far the best overall situation across the board so I feel grateful and very lucky to have waded through the others to get this one. Best price discount, trade, dealership experience, and add ons. You guys and the whole forum made me feel better about the mileage.

Paint and carpet better than all the rest and like new. Seriously surprised by this.
They installed new factory all weather mats, old design but free.
I asked if they could throw in a set of trd pro wheels since I talked about downsizing in the future and of course they said no. Wasn't really expecting it anyway haha. BUT, they had a set of TRDOR wheel take offs sitting at the parts counter and just asked if I could have those for fun. He said they'll be in the trunk. :dance: I can live with that.
If you haven't guessed I'm a little excited and can't wait to be apart of this community and enjoy our 4runners together!
PS, I know everyone gets excited thinking about all the things they want to buy and upgrade on their new t4r, but I have been wanting a One Up bike rack for too long. I can't wait.
