Just Purchased a 99 t4r sr5 "Highlander" 4wd

HI everyone!
My family has always been toyota owners and we began with a 1993 Hilux 4x4. got another 94 hilux 4x4 but with the 4 cyl engine to use as a project and then got the 04 4runner sport edition 4wd! And I AM PROUD TO SAY I JUST PURCHASED MY VERY ONE 99 4runner SR5 "highlander" edition 4wd! Pics are from the used car lot and I can't wait to pick up my rig after they finish some maintenance.
I wanna jump right into modding but I'm ur typical broke college student so any cheap but effective mods that you guys have in mind would be awesome! I'm thinking to first get an external ATF cooler before anything else to avoid the milkshake crisis! Any advice on what I can do to beef up my rig such as recommended lifts/tires/rims/ and lighting info would be greatly appreciated!

ooo nice your 3hrs away from me if you get a lift you more than welcome to come down this way ill help i got a garage... as for the isr and deck plate mod its basicly a cheap vs of a k&n intake

Nice. Would buying a air intake system and exhaust tip help the performance of the rig? It's a slug on the roads but a beast on the trails. I could use a little more speed! Any advice as to what kinda intake and exhaust to get? Also I saw some nice 2005 Tundra alloys for 380 on CL and they are in good condition. tires are about 25% but wasn't sure if that was a good deal or not.

Hey.
Congrats on your runner man I just got one too and we are twins ..same color mine is a 97 tho....as for intake it will help you gain some HP not too much tho..some people will tell you it does not help at all but I think it does.. I saw it make a huge difference on my friends runner, he got K&N as well as my Celica so i'm putting one on my runner shortly. And yes an exaust system will help your runner.

I live in Colorado. and ya I think we are in the same boat with lift and mods. Should be sweet...I need to take some pictures before I go to town on aftermarket stuff so I have before and afters ha ha ha looking foward to seeing what you do to yours!!!

It'll take some time. I'm broke after the purchase of the rig. I'm still a college kid so not much money coming my way. I was thinking about getting an external ATF (automatic transmission fluid) cooler before the modding. I heard some horror stories about "milkshakes". Rather spend a small amount to invest on that then a costly tranny repair/replacement.

Ya i hear ya with the college student thing im in the same boat ..i have decided to pick up a few extra shifts at the hospital so i can get stuff done quicker because im being a little impatient...I have never heard of a external ATF thing..hmmm got to go do my research..this idea of working on a runner is new to me because im used to working on my Celica ha ha ha oh well change is good....what else are you planning on doing?

Nice so your a nursing major? I have 2 part time jobs at my school between and after classes and stuff.
To make it a little easier for ya, the ATF thing was suggested because it's fairly common for t4r to have faulty radiators. The radiator's have an internal automatic transmission cooler in it, and after a while when the radiator starts corroding it leaks and mixes into the ATF fluid, causing it to look like a strawberry milkshake. If that fluid gets into ur transmission, ur looking at replacing that badboy. so therefore alot of people have got an external ATF cooler and bypass the internal one completely. Cheap investment to save lots of money down the line.
I wanna swap out the seats maybe get some leather in there. Maybe some sound upgrades. thinking about the supercharger but that's pricey. My priority right now is
1. ATF cooler
2. Lift (maybe spacers to start off with cuz they're cheap but looking to lift about 3 inches)
3. security system/remote start/keyless entry
4. sound system
5. tires/wheels
6. intake/exhaust/ecu upgrade
7. E-lock diffs

ha ha not nursing ..im going to paramedic school and i would like to become a flight medic...maybe a RN when im like 40 but for now thats what ill do. anyways, i did my research on the external ATF things ..i heard that they are more useful if you do like hardcore wheelin or long trips anyways ill continue doing my homework. those are pretty good mods tho...i got leather seats however they are trashed so my nexts lovely day off im going junk yard hunting for nicer ones. Your pretty much doing the exact same mods as me tho..thats cool..im on a hunt for the sequoia wheels i love that look with them powder coated black..my tires are shot too so that is a must here in colorado..anyways we should trade pictures as we do our mods..its cool we are both starting off!!
