Just purchased my first runner need help

Hey, guys looking forward to hearing back from you guys on this forum, just by reading around I realize how much I can learn. I'm a college student trying to setup a build and so far have installed all new front brakes, it's at 110,000. Changed the belts, purchased a new bumper, other was rusted extremely bad. So getting that stuff out of the way I moved on to buying a 3'' suspension lift, Grabber AT2 285/75/16. Also realized I would need wheel spacers while running 33's so got some all pro off road 1.5 spacers. So on to my main question. I'm pretty new to all of this and realized after buying the tires would need new wheels because the stock ones are 15...I know stupid. I'm pretty drained on money after all this and really just trying to be affordable but cars, in general, can be pretty addicting lol. What would be my best bet for wheels to go with these tires? looking forward to hearing back!

Lots of options. A couple to consider -

ProComp model 8069s. Or look for take-offs from a Tacoma. I got a set of 16" Tacoma alloys with like 4 miles on them for $200.

Not all the 16" rims will work if you plan to do the Tundra Brake Upgrade. Otherwise I think any will work. To answer your question on how to know. There are a whole lot of threads about wheel choices when upgrading. Of course a Tundra wheel will fit, but many of the later 16" wheels will also fit. You should do some google searches on "3rd gen wheels" or "3rd gen wheels with TBU". After you read about 30 of these threads, you'll be a seasoned forum researcher.

I agree with [MENTION=102597]IBallEngineer[/MENTION] , do a little google searching and research, but generally speaking, if you're looking for something cheap, check around Craigslist and eBay for some stock wheels off a newer 4Runner or Taco. I'm not positive what years, but most of the tundra wheels are 5 lug. I got mine from a newer 4Runner for 150 and was able to blast and powder them myself for cheap.

Was looking at some Rock Crawler Series 97, 16x8 with 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern and happened to be driving by a mechanic and thought I'd asked if they fit and he Immediately got pissed at me like I'm some idiot and said why would you want to destroy your car and transmission like that? that's not what your car is meant for. But he's wrong right? Because I see everyone doing this lol but he's a mechanic so?

He's not "wrong", but he's also not right. The vehicle was designed, built, geared and tuned to run with all the stock parts (including wheels and tire size).

Messing with any driveline and suspension components throws off the dynamic of these things.

Is it "bad" for the engine and transmission?.. not really. Is it "harder" on the engine and transmission? ... generally speaking, yes. You're being a little more demanding on the driveline by upsizing your wheels and upsetting the balance with different offsets, width, weight, etc.

A lift will also wear out your suspension and steering components much quicker (Tie-Rods, Wheel Bearings, Ball Joints, Bushings, etc.), as would adding wheel spacers among other things.

Some mechanics/technicians just don't like the idea of "modifying" anything because they've seen too many vehicles enter their shop with a problem that could have been avoided if the owner had just stuck with OEM replacement parts.

What brakes did you use on the front?
