Just sharing a solved problem

Fixed a very bad "clunk" in the front end this week. It started quite suddenly with no leadup at all. It happened only when quickly turning lefy/right back and forth with the steering wheel. so I knew it was related to something in the front end.

When I got home from work I jacked the front off the ground, and thought it would be a bad sway bar link (it happened before) but as it turned out, it was the steering tie rod end where the lock nut is located on the threaded part of the power steering rack.

I grabbed hold of the tie rod end and felt it was loose, a distinct clicking. Somehow , the lock nut came loose about a third of a turn. Probably the cold weather, it has never happened before. So just using a big adjustable wrench I tightened it u and a test drive proved it went away. Very strange. I don't go off road, so like I said, it must have been a combination of the weather and simple bumps in the road.

I was worrying it was going to be expensive or time consuming. Glad it was a free fix. The best.
