Thought I'd drop in and say hello and show off my newly acquired '93 SR5 4Runner. It's a nicely equipped rig with the 3.0/5-Spd and factory 31" option (4.56 diffs). Overall it's a well cared for example that I had to fly out to California to find. You'd never find a older 4Runner like this here in New Mexico!
A little about me.. I've been around Toyota's for quite a while but only recently really started building them. My first was a '82 pickup that was pretty much stock with some 31" AT's. Got it in Alaska while I was stationed up there in the Air Force. Got me pretty much anywhere I wanted to go. Really developed an appreciation for the older Toyota's from my time with that truck. Fast forward a few years and I picked up an '88 4Runner that I thought just needed a timing chain (turned out to need a rod bearing too!) that I dumped a wad of cash into and never really got to enjoy it. Did a All-Pro SAS and had big dreams for it. Never did fulfill any of them.. Clean rig it was! I still miss it..

And after the 1st month of ownership!:
Fast forward a few more years and I separated from the Air Force, and wanted to find out what I had missed out on all those years. So I scoured the internet, and found a really clean little '83 SR5 that was out in California near an old friend. Bought a ticket to visit, and ended up refunding the return flight, cause I was driving the truck home!
Over the course of a few years I tweaked and tuned. Ended up getting a '97 Tacoma heart transplant and the little 3RZ really made the truck fun! This truck has been my sole source of transportation for quite a while and is just utterly dependable.
So that brings us to the here and now (and the beginnings of this 4Runner's story). In looking for something more comfortable, and dare I say a bit more civilized I started looking for a well cared for 4Runner that I could put my personal touches on. After literally 3 days of non-stop searching I stumbled upon this gem, and I knew I had to have it. Back out to Cali I flew and drove this sucker home. Initial impressions are: this thing rides like a Lexus! At least compared to my '83.. Not quite as peppy as the little lightweight truck w/ the 3RZ, but it goes. My speed racer days are over, but I'll see what I can do to improve things. I already suspect something like a 5VZ is in order but that's down the road. Other than that I'm thrilled with it. Can't wait to play with it!
