K&N Air Intake

I have a 2008 4runner 4.0l SR5 4wd. I just had to replace the carbon canister...that was an expensive endeavor...

I'm thinking about putting a K&N Air Intake on.... but I don't know what the difference between the 77 series and the 63 series are... Has anyone done this?

The 77 is chrome tubing and the 63 is made of hard plastic. I have a 2005 v8 and have had the K&N 63 series installed since the first year. I would recommend not using the oiled filter given with the system. I have used the oiled filter in 3 of my previous cars and 2 of them I had to replace the MAF sensor including my 4runner. I also had problem with the filter not staying on tightly and had to tighten the clamp often. Since replacing the MAF sensor on the t4r I installed a dry Amsoil air filter and all is good so far. There are also other dry filters on the market. Another thing I had to do was to pad the heat shield directly under the intake tube because it rattled when I hit certain bumps on the road. Just cut a piece off the edge trim (there will be extra) and line the bottom circle part of the heat shield before the install.

Just to make sure I followed all of that... You recommend installing the 63 but using a dry air filter like Amsoil (I've already had the KN oiled filter installed for a while)... I actually just cleaned and reoiled it today. I just watched a video on how to clean the MAF sensor so I think I'll probably do that this weekend.

Not recommending either as I only have had the 63. I do recommend a dry filter from my experience with K&N filters and also to pad the heat shield if you were to install either system.

Alright thank you! I'm basically just looking for a way to pad the MPG's a little bit.

Then stick with OEM paper filters and spend the money you would be wasting on K&N, on gas.
