K&N AirCharger and the Factory Warranty

I've purchased the K&N AirCharger for a 2003 4.7L V8 and I'm ready to install it, but I'm still not quite sure of the factory warranty issue. It seems clear that if you are replacing the OEM filter with a high performance drop in filter, then there is no way that a dealer can void your warranty, but what about the AirCharger system? With the intake replacement for the Air Charger, should I be concerned about voiding my warranty. K&N documentation is not specific enough for me to make the determination, does anyone have specific data on this issue?

All I could find was "Designed to increase horsepower by as much as 10%, although the kits are not street legal in some states "

Thanks for the reply jgrimball. I've started by contacting K&N, I'll post any responses that I get.
 
My personal experiences at the dealer with warranty and aftermarketparts have varied. In my fathers Tundra (K&N FIPK equipped) one dealership wouldn't warranty a CEL and was rather whiney about the parts on the truck (found out later that K&N had an updated intake tube that they sent me free of charge and solved the CEL). Another dealer who works on my Celica looked at all the mods onmy car and said they couldn't void my warranty unless failure was related tomods.
 
How much was your air charger? About $300?

I wonder if it will work with the TRD Supercharger... Anyone know?

Thats a big NO on the s/c. TRD made it really clear that no air intake system when you install a s/c.

I'm sure you can install the K/N air filter that's the same form factor as the stock air filter for better flow, at any rate. and for only $50 or so, right?
 
Curious why the AirCharger has a negative effect on the SC, any ideas? Anyway, I paid 229 + tax at a local performance shop. I thought that was a good deal since I've seen them online for more.

Well according to TRD, any air intake system hinders the performance of s/c and shortens the life of the s/c. If you guys install a s/c call TRD or read the installation manual first. I guess you can ignore there suggestions, but considering how much a s/c cost why would you.

Yes the air filter is fine, I believe it cost about the same as the TRD filter. In any case both will work good.

If I had the funds, then I would buy the SC (read the manual.) For now, I'll settle for the poor man's performance upgrades. On another note, what about headers, has anyone heard about their availability?

I'm anxiouslly awaiting a set of headers. TRD might come out with some within a year.
 
I would like to see a nice amount of stuff out there for the 4Runner before I go by mine. Be kind of boring to drive if there isn't anything to do to juice it up.

You won't find much right now. Probably take another year or two for the good stuff (ie headers) to come down the pipe line.
 
I can live with a K&N FIPK and the dual Borla exhaust for now but there will definitely by that need for more. I'd go supercharger but I'd have my foot into it way too much and my pockets would be empty from buying gas.
 
To my knowledge, adding after market components does not void the entire warranty. It would void the warranty on the system it affects. But every manufacture is different. Best to check with Toyota.
 
A supercharger that adds 120+ hp, all covered under factory warranty isn't enough stuff for you?

Show me another manufacturer that offers something more under factory warranty...
