K&N Oil filters? Anyone using them?

Sorry if this has already been asked, I searched and couldn't find any K&N reviews for 5th gens, only older style filters. Anyway, this K&N filter on amazon makes me curious. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GBQ771C/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I think K&N is a gimmick company mostly based on their air filters and performance claims, but I'm no pro. I stick with wix or oem in most vehicles, but just curious if anyone's tested or tried these. The price says they're cheap so probably cheap quality.

for a few bucks you might as well just stick with OEM since everything has been vetted by Toyota engineers for 10k intervals.

Spray oil& cleaner is cheaper than new filters. I've had my k&N for a few years and the pedal felt more responsive right away. nothing huge, but noticeable.

I still keep my old oem one to throw in if I'm going through a ton of dust.

OEM are excellent quality and cheap, no reason to use anything else.

In the motorcycle world, K&N oil filters have been banned at many tracks because they tend to fail regularly, spraying oil all over the track while also destroying the engine they are attached to, because of poor build quality.

Their air filters are crap, too. Paper filters provide much better filtration, with no chance of fouling sensors.

I've used them for 3 years without issue. I use Mobil1 and the K&N filter and the oil still looks good. I'm thinking about sending the oil off for analysis after the next change. I think you're good as long as you keep it to 10k and use quality oil.

I use the K&N filter in the 4Runner. I will no longer use there spin on filters though. Ive had 2 with bad welds on the removal nut and the slightest pressure to remove they fell off. Although K&N replaced both filters im not going thru the hassle of fighting to remove them.

Those weld on nuts are stupid. If you need a socket on that nut to remove the filter it’s way over tightened. The filter should be tightened by hand and therefore loosened by hand or with the simple pair of oil filter pliers.... This is in reference to the spin on filters not the cartridge style on the 4 L engines...
