Do the yakima crossbars mount to the existing 4R main rails, and you just remove the factory crossbars?

The Yakima Evenkeel clamps right onto the factory crossbars, and are adjustable in width. I use it for my boat, a 14ft pungo, which weighs 50lbs or so. I can just throw it up there myself.

I think you will want to create a really sound platform to start with.

do you park in a garage, if so does your garage have tall front doors.

you can use something like this to load it on your car.

if you are strapped for cash (get it?) you can rig up a pulley system. that's what a buddy of mine does for his canoe. its $5 worth of parts and an hour of your time building it

I have my kayak on a pully system in the garage but only for storage. The door is too low to allow driving in and out with a kayak on the roof. Also, the OP would still need to unload and load it when away from home.
