KDSS Long term reliability?

You do realize what forum you are on right?

I think so...since i am one of two creators of this forum. :)

Its a joke fellas. Remember we are all sitting at our computers typing at each other not getting ready to throw down at a bar

You should also know that jokes do not convey well thru the computer screen. FYI.

Just so you know....

The jeep is a front only, electronic disconnect system. It is also one of the first thing that fails, and gets thrown in the scrap pile and replaced with an aftermarket system.

The KDSS is a front and rear hydraulic disconnect system, that has been around for a long time with little to no failures.

Thanks

The Rubi's front disco fails? Can you give me a link? (Honest question.)

But, here's the thing...the rear axle on the Rubi is very flexy...thus, despite disco is only on the front axle, its RTI is CLASS-LEADING, bar none (stock vs. stock).

Yeah, I've heard this from more than one Rubi owner. They say sometimes all it takes is a small hit around the front bumper to cause it to fail.

So let's ask another question, if KDSS fails and instead of repairing it....how hard is it just to remove and go to a long travel setup? Had anyone removed it?

A simplified KDSS could work very will without accumulators. Yes they do build in some shock absorbing to the system, but that's not necessary for a very functional sway control system.

Yes. Snowplows in a single day of plowing cycle many many more times than a KDSS cylinder on a typical day. If you measured the flow of fluid in both systems, the snow plow would have orders of magnitude greater hydraulic fluid movement. Most of the time (over 12mph) KDSS doesn't cycle at all or extremely little. And the point is really that synthetic hydraulic fluid is unnecessary. Lots of hydraulic systems operate at -30* to 130* with regular dino based hydraulic fluids without issue.

The KDSS fluid doesn't get hot because it doesn't cycle very much. Next time you're on a bumpy road, stop and feel the cylinders. They won't warm up meaningfully because the whole idea of shock absorbing shown in the kdss video mostly nonsense. If it actually made a meaningful difference you'd need to use different shock absorbers for each side and probably different springs as well because the effect on left and right sides would be different due to the leverage differences.

Look, I'm not going to argue with you on a public forum about this. I will say the video is not nonsense, Nitrogen is needed in accumulators, snow plows use more oil but less cycles, no hydraulic system using an ISO68 dino fluid will operate the same at -30 to +130 and the guys who designed KDSS probably know a bit more than you about hydraulic systems. Let me know when you build one for $500 that can work like the OEM system.

Just type "rubicon front sway bar disconnect fail" or "rubicon electro-fail" (yes, they even have a name for it) into the google and you'll get plenty of links.

Which is why you were brave enough to call the guy a "tool".

If we had been sitting down at a bar and he told me the only good 4Runner is a stock 4Runner, go buy a jeep. I'd have told him he was a tool right to his face.

This thread was a good laugh for me this morning. But, I have two things to add.

1. I have KDSS, but I wish I didn't solely because I will eventually have to work around it when I go long travel in the rear. Otherwise, I have no issues with it.

2. Jeeps suck!

Then, i would smack you back for drinking too damn much to understand what i was saying...and walk away shaking my head in disbelief at the ignorance of some people.

They always fail on jeep owners that actually go offroad with their rubicons.
The motor hangs below the bumper with no protection. One hit and done.
They also get water inside, causing electrical and mechanical failure.

Don't they sell a skidplate for that as a Jeep accessory? I could swear that they did...but i am outdated.
