Im not trying to describe it I am asking if it actually disconnects the swaybars....

The Jeep system does actually disconnect the front sway bar in the center. It uses a sliding collar on a splined swaybar to disconnect the FRONT sway bar. I believe the rear is fixed.

The inside looks like this:

I know very little else about it - except that it's not hydraulic.

So I was waking to my 4Runner the other day and a Jeep guy was parked 2 spots over from me. His Jeep was modded to the 10th degree and it looked like he could literally climb up Mt. Olympus. I was 99% sure he never took that thing off the road so I asked him if he bought the Jeep with the KDSS system pre-installed. He said "oh yeah, I got everything for this bad boy".........I just smiled and walked away.

There are a number of other ways to do automated disconnects:

BMW's version is electric and can apply torque level the body.

Although they also have some hydraulic versions:

So, in your engineering opinion, Toyota engineers made KDSS complex for no freaking reason...and that much simpler/cheaper ways could have been taken? Toyota engineers are not as smart as snowplow folks?

I don't know...if you believe that, then the rest of the 4runner must be junk! Yikes. Do snowplow engineers make SUVs? I want one!

Logsplitter guys>snowplow guys>Toyota hydraulic systems engineering guys.

RTI of stock trail with KDSS vs Rubicon vs lancruiser

A Land Cruiser with KDSS flexes more than a stock Wrangler with sway bar disconnect. I don't know if a Trail 4runner does as I've yet to see the two side by side on a ramp. A 4runner - as ridiculous as this sounds - is actually lighter by mfg listed curb weight.

Well... The landcruiser doesn't quite flex more but the performance of KDSS with IFS on the fast bits more then compensates.

A stock 4runner with KDSS: 491
Rubicon unlimited disco: 687
Rubicon unlimited no disco: 518
landcruiser (KDSS is std): 647

On another note just doing front coilovers and UCAs on my KDSS Trail took my RTI to about 570. I'd guess that a rear lift would easily take me into the mid to high 6s and an LT would be damn close to the 700s.

KDSS is better then the jeep sway bar disconnect for a variety of reasons. A pure disconnect is either on or off. It does nothing to assist in body control in higher flex scenarios. Put 500lbs of gear on your roof rack and go through a curvy off camber road, and KDSS will show it's true beauty. The regular disconnects simply can't do that.

BTW - Do you have any experience outside of the internet? Have you ever engineered or manufactured anything? If you want to see one product that you can probably find near you to see what "snowplow engineers" make, go to any hay/alfalfa farm. If you find one of these, it's what "snowplow engineers" make and it probably was built by my family.

And I can promise you the automated hydraulics far exceeds what KDSS does. And I have actually engineered and manufactured a snow plow... from scratch. May be one of the only 4runners with a snow plow around.

Some of us have to actually make the things that you pretend to know anything about.

not the Jeep.... I am very fluent in Jeep. The guy said KDSS disconnects and I was asking if it actually does

I have no idea why you wrote the first paragraph. Was that intended for someone else?

But the rest of it...again, you have NOT answered my questions. Wonderful, you and family makes snowplow stuff or farm stuff...you have not answered my questions.

And FWIW, I am smarter than you. That I don't know if we need to debate.

Um, I have a bit of experience in hydraulics and you've already shown you know very little when it comes to that subject. An Ag machine? Really?

I have a degree in physics. Hydraulic pressure is pretty basic stuff. Automating a self steering trailer isn't as easy as you might think.

Let's see some samples of your work.
