I returned the vehicle to the dealer who said it had rusted through and the cost to replace it would be $2,800. The Toyota rep that I met with said it corroded through due to driving it on salted roads in the winter [I live in Maine]. He said it would have been covered before 36,000 but now I am out of luck.
I was curious so I crawled under my truck to check, I have zero corrosion (knock on wood), and my appears at least to be machined from aluminum and is not painted or coated, also my unions appear to be a different material than yours, no indications of surface corrosion on those either. There is some however an the body of the solenoid cab forward, assuming from rock chips exposing the casing.
Wow, that's bad (and the frame's not looking so hot, either). You're in Denver? That thing looks like it was submerged in salt water!
Is this from the Magnesium Chloride Colorado uses for de-icing?
I'm glad California uses sand...
Thought I'd post here instead of starting another thread. I didn't notice anything when I changed the oil at 10,000 and am changing it at 15,000 today and noticed this. What do you all think? Normal or a leak? This is the front two bushings. I didn't notice anything coming from either front boot. Also the black stuff is gunky, not thin like fluid?![]()

I did recently go camping with a roof top tent and the back loaded. It got some good flexing down a road to get to the camp spot. I was going to wipe off the skid plate and check it again in a couple weeks. If I notice any more I'll definitely take it in. Thanks for the feedback.Have you been flexing the suspension more lately? KDSS allows 5 more inches of down travel compared to SR5, TRDP and the Limited. I'd say just continue to monitor it and if it gets worse bring it the dealer. There is a KDSS maintenance light as well they should let you know something isn't right.

Great video, and thanks for the help! Also this is an awesome article about KDSS from 4x4 Australia:

I had 2016 TE with KDSS. Front cylinder started to leak at 23K. Vehicle was never taken off road.
How was the warranty repair process?
Why drive a 4Runner if you don't go off road?
