Keep leaving back window down!

Tonight I did it again! Bought some wine & rolled the back window down remotely to put it in, drove to another store and left the window down when I went in.

I'm ticked that Toyota won't let the rear window go up with the remote. Also, there's no light or indicator to tell you it's down.

Is there anyting I can do besides putting sticky reminder notes on the dash like my wife suggests?

I've done that but notice it when I hear vehicles behind me. She has a good idea though. You could get around it by using the lift gate instead. Colder climates also make effective reminders.

I have to agree with ToyotaDoodz,
it's pretty obvious that the window is open when you can hear the tires on the road or the engine of the car behind sputtering at the stoplight.

Don't blame toyota for your inability to remember to hit the button that is right next to the ignition (to close the window) when you get in the car.

Are you serious? How could you NOT know that your rear window is down??

I can tell if mine is up or down just by closing the driver's door when I get in. With the window down, the door closes much easier and makes a distinctive sound. Plus, looking in the rear view mirror, it's obvious that the glass is down because the view is brighter (not looking thru the tint)

Hearing road noise: Doesn't happen with stereo on!

Ambient temperature: As said, not so applicable in Scottsdale!

Lights from other cars thru tinted read window: Yes, but little help when drive accross a huge parking lot to another store (and not applicable in daylight).

Sound the door makes when rear window is open: Hafta learn this I guess.

How about dust and exhaust smell rushing in?

The first time I ever did that was from carrying my key fob in my jeans pocket. When I sat down the keys pressed the button and rolled down the back window. I didn't know it until I came out, got in and drove up to the first stop light and heard a real loud engine but there was nothing in either lane next to me. Sort of freaked me out for a second and then I noticed it was down and the car was behind me.

Now I leave the key fob part hanging out the top of my pocket. My remote works almost 100 yards away on this 4Runner.

I did have my local alarm installer shop (which a freind owns) tell me they could install a module for $100 to control the up & down on the window, since Toyota can't or won't allow it.

This may be a low tech solution - put some kind of decal on the window. Something that is maybe translucent & not too obnoxious.

I had an alarm installed recently and I opted for that. Works pretty good, press aux1 and it goes down, aux2 rolls it up. While I agree that it's obvious when the window is down, I think it's a pain in the ass to have to roll it up inside the vehicle (what if I just want to throw something in and I'm not getting in the vehicle?). just my 2 cents.

One thing I don't forget to do is lock my car and turn on the alarm with the remote as I walk away. I don't even have to think about it. Toyota could fix this by having the window go up automatically when the alarm is turned on.

AMEN to that! Or make it so it won't lock or alarm - just gives you that long tone to let you know something's wrong.

Way too much work for me..... I just push the button on the dashboard as soon as I start my 4Runner.

But yeah, I tried it once just to make sure it works. It does.

I don't have good nose, nor good ear. Therefore, I am not a qualified Toyota engineer, thank God.

The only two reasons I can think of not to automatically roll up the rear window are,

1. No one ever complaints on not able to roll up other four side windows (or ....doors, I wish:bash: ) when the ignition is started, Why should the rear windows be complaint about.

2. There can be an occasion when you load a oversized pipe or 2x4x12 that you would not want the rear window rolled up, once again, when the ignition is started.

I would think if there is more space on the tiny remote control, it would be a good idea to have another button to close rear window. Has someone try to push the rear window 'open' button twelve times to see if the window can be rolled up.
