Keeping out exhaust with back window down

My two pups travel in the cargo area,
so I really like to crack the rear window for them.
(they make faces at the person driving behind me)

But even with windows and sunroof open, I still smell fumes.
And if I can smell it, I know the dogs aren't enjoying it.

I don't have a rear deflector, so I guess I need to modify the tailpipe mas others have suggested.
It was nice to know I am not the only person with this problem!

Or add the rear deflector? My dogs ride in the back, window down 1/3 or so, no fumes.

Try side windows up, vent on medium pulling from outside. That worked for me but if i even crack the windows it pulls fumes in.

I tried it with the side windows up and the sunroof open...it didn't help.
I'll have to try it with the vent.

Not sure if I like the look of the rear spoiler/deflector...
but with prices around $100...the reward is not worth the cost!

But I do appreciate the suggestions!

Guess I’ll have to try the vent trick because I have the deflector and my rig still turns into a moving gas chamber

Rear window misery

I'm really surprised this topic has so few comments?
This is my first T4R and I love it except...since day 1 the coolest tailgate window that stows had me amazed. Until I drove down a dirt road and my new black on black TRD Pro was seriously full of dust in 5 minutes.

Then the rains came and winter roads just spray the back window beyond any logic of any vehicle I have ever driven is insane!!

I researched the laws of aerodynamics and learned there is a solution that move the low pressure air further back away from vehicle as the high pressure is compressed and speeds up. Ironically this reduces drag at the same time somewhat like winglets do?

I work in the industry so I am going to have my friends crunch some numbers with the width, length at low velocity to create a proportional deflector or surface, stay tuned for the progress reports - unlike Honda - Toyota doesn't have aerodynamic engineers or concerns which I understand given the application- but they are driven on roads above crawl control speeds

Yeah it seemed intuitive not to drive down dirt roads with Any windows open.

Especially the rear one.

When I do drive with it open somewhat, I open the sunroof and air just flows back out, no exhaust in.

Not sure why its a problem for eveyone else....
