As the title states I have a question about keeping the automatic window and other settings while the battery is disconnected. Is it ok to use jumper cables hooked between the leads and another unhooked battery while I have the 'Runner batt disconnected (making extra sure the clamps are absolutely safe from touching anything else, of course!)? I really do not feel like resetting all the windows and I am pretty much a walking Murphy's Law when it comes to electronics like that. They will probably never get back to normal for me :crazy: That is the only option I have availabe to me right now and I can't afford to get something to plug into the lighter socket right now. Sorry this was a little longer than it needed to be, but I tend to babble a bit when I am in pain and otherwise not feeling too hot... Thanks for any advise!

Yes, it would be OK to connect another battery to the terminals when switching batteries...
I generally use a small 12v pack to do the same, just make sure you don't short anything out/turn on the car/crank the motor.
That said, I have never lost presets when swapping batts, but I have had to deal with navigation codes and radio codes which are sometimes not available to me.

If you are careful with a the cable ends, and hopefully have a 2nd set of hands to assist, it should work just fine. The battery settings savers are not that expensive, I think you can get one that uses a 9-volt battery and plugs into the cig lighter socket for less than $20.00. One note, if you only have a 12v power outlet, and not a constant on outlet, it won't work because the circuit to it is shut off when the key is turned off.
My wife has an X5, with the battery in the trunk area, under the spare and air suspension pump system. It can take 20-30 min to swap that battery out, and the terminals are not easy to access. Fortunately, BMW designed a set of battery terminals in side the engine compartment, so when I had to change the battery, I connected a spare to these terminals before removing the rear battery, and all was saved.
