Key fob is water proof

I went fly fishing yesterday and was about 30 minutes into wading around in my chacos before I realized that my keys were in my pocket, totally submerged. I cussed a bit and put them in my fishing bag and kept fishing. About an hour later I went to my runner and the fob worked on the first click. Pretty pleasantly surprised by that.

Meh, water resistant maybe but I dont think I would tell anyone to assume they are water proof and to go swimming with them :)

Glad it worked out though!
 
definitely had them in my pocket numerous times in similar situations and each time was surprised it still worked.

Hell maybe they are waterproof! I would not expect so and do not remember reading about them but who knows.

I accidently pulled my fob out of my pocket and threw them into a bowl of salsa and they work fine after a rinse and wipe down.

Mine have been wet in pockets, submerged (slipped off a rock crossing a deep creek), dropped and lost temporarily on a muddy trail. Actually found them after getting back to the trail head, realizing I had dropped my keys and having to go back and ride five miles looking for them on the trail.

Water resistant, water proof it does not matter. At least for mine they get wet and still work. I have tested them unintentionally lol. BTW my Samsung Rugby phone can take the same abuse.
 
I've done the same leaving mine in my pockets and running them through the wash. Accidentally did it with a ford key fob too. Both worked fine afterwards. Considered myself lucky but certainly wouldn't want to purposefully submerge them. I'd imagine they'd fair worse if it were saltwater as well.
 
Put them submerged in a bowl of (dry) white rice. I'm not kidding.

The moisture can do it's damage days later and the white rice trick is an old cell phone saving tip.
 
I can see it coming...our favorite dealer in his next TV commercial hollering at us, "YA, COME ON DOWN AND GET YER NEW CAR FROM US, WE GOT THE ALL NEW TOYOTA MODELS WITH WATERPROOF KEY FOBS!!!..."

Oh my. I wish you hadn't told anybody.
 
Lost Keys

Does anyone know what these key fobs cost to replace? From the posts here I gather none of you have ever lost or destroyed your key.

I once lost my keys while swimming under a waterfall. I was up in the local So Cal mountains in a very remote location, an hour's drive from home. I swam up to the waterfall a few times and finally decided it was falling with too much force to swim under it. Later, before hiking out, I realized the keys that had been in my pocket were missing. Fortunately I had carried a dive mask with me to explore the pools and the keys had a little red plastic fob that floated just enough to bob above the sandy bottom. I had to swim right under the waterfall to about 10 feet deep to find them.

Another time I lost them at Laguna Beach 1&1/2 hours from home while skin diving. Luckily the surf was small and the water was clear. I found the same red fob on the sand right where the waves were washing in and out.

That was a plain old fashioned key for my '76 Toyota pickup. It's amazing I found it in either location. I learned from those two experiences to always take a 2nd set of keys and give one of them to my hiking buddy or my wife.
 
Just in case you were wondering: the key fob is also beer-proof. But your beer isn't key-proof, and may taste like metal and pocket lint.
 
Through a series of unfortunate events I've been on a full saltwater dive to ~100 ft through a shipwreck, sat on a ocean floor toilet, sat in a crashed airplane all with my forgotten Toyota key in my pocket. (3 separate dives on a vacation where I didn't realize my key was in my pocket until later in the trip)
