Key recall? Missing actual key

I took advantage of the key "recall" for my 2023 SR5P (they were delivered with 1 key because of shortages at the time). Somehow it took almost two hours, but when I got home, I noticed that the slot where the physical key goes is empty. Is that normal? I guess I don't really care about the key itself all that much, but not being able to attach it to a keychain is a pain in the butt.

Toyota said it's not part of the recall. The recall is just the fob and I'd need to get a new key cut if i want the actual "key" part.

does anyone have a recommendation for a keyfob cover that doesn't rely on the key blade for attaching to a keychain?

that is, something that has it's own built in loop?
