Keyless Entry Chime???

2005 SPT V6

New member
Just got my 2005 4runner back from the body shop and my keyless entry does not chime anymore. Bodyshop guy called the dealership service and parts and they say the 4runners do not come with a chime unless I had the dealer installed alarm and that the keyless entry are silent. Mine always had the chime and I do not have an alarm system. Can anyone else let me know if your 4th gen 4runner chimes when locking the doors and also where exactly it is located, pics will help, so I can show the body shop guy that they do exist. He thinks I'm making this up to get a free alarm system.
Thanks

That body shop guy is either clueless or full of sh*t (or perhaps both). Try checking if the piezo has been disconnected or missing when they put everything back.

-open hood
-facing truck, look towards driver's side fender
-look for a black wire going into a large (about 1.5 - 2 in. in diameter) rubber opening (easily located between booster and fuse box on side wall)
-check harness connections to piezo (that speaker device that "chirps")

You may need a flashlight. According to my '05's manual. The only way to disable the beep would be a stealership visit. The factory setting is usually set to ON. I can only think of perhaps three possibilities:

-someone reprogrammed it (but why?)
-through the prolonged dismantling and disconnection of the battery, maybe the default after an overdue reconnect is the OFF mode (I'm just speculating really)
-someone just forgot to reconnect the piezo/speaker

Edit: Just saw your thread in the Audio section. Now that I think about it, they could have forgotten to order that part and/or discarded the original piece upon rebuilding too.

It was missing from the accident. I finally found the part#89747-51010). The dealership he was working with are complete morons (Hansel Toyota). They were telling him that they do not come with the 4runner from the factory. I called another local dealership and he gave the Part# within 2 minutes. So he should have ordered it, now that I gave him the P/N.

thanks
