Keyless entry fob not connecting

I purchased my 4runner with just a door key and an ignition key, no fob included. I had never really looked into keyless entry until a few days ago, and found these on Amazon:

I decided to buy them after reading many positive reviews coming from owners of 3rd and 4th gens. However, I am unable to connect them to my vehicle. I cleared all previous key fobs off the system, am able to get the 4Runner into programming mode, but they are not connecting after numerous attempts. I also replaced the battery in one of the fobs, which did nothing. Anybody know if I am doing anything wrong or have any tips?

Not sure if it helps but I too have this problem intermittently. The lock button works all the time but the unlock and window function work only 20 percent of the time. I have re programmed the fob about 6 times. I found the directions on this forum and followed them with success. Not sure if its a fob issue or a vehicle issue...

Had same problem, turns out the instructions I found online were missing a step in the programming instructions.

I found a different set of instructions online and it worked first time. I compared the two and sure enough the first set of instructions had a missing step. Don't remember any of the sites though. Might have been the included instructions that were wrong.
