Keyless entry remotes

I recently bought a 2000 4Runner. The seller did not have the keyless remotes. Apparently there are two possible systems. A factory one and one for the VIP systems. The VIP system is installed, however when I run the program test for the factory system it indicates that it is still present. I would like to have the convenience of rolling down the back window that the factory remotes have. The VIP remotes do not have this option. Does anyone know if I would be able to program a factory remote? or do the dealers disable the factory system when they install the VIP upgrade?

I just had my remote looked at by the dealer and $45 latter. If you do not know the code....it pretty crazy...open close door, roll down window, turn of the ignition then stand on your head. I'm not sure if each year is different, but it's a pain in the @ss. The stealer wanted $164 for a new remote which has the option to roll down the back window. I would search the web for the code to program the remote. I would also ask the stealer if the cost of the new remote also comes with installation.

Good luck!

There is a remote that works w/ the VIP system and has the back window feature, you just have to get the right FCC ID. The one I needed for my 02 w/o the alarm was ID HYQ12BAN, the one w/ the alarm ends in 2612 I believe, but search for that info as I don't remember the exact number. The programming is very easy, even though it seems complicated, search for the instructions and just do it, you'll be surprised how easy it is and not worth any dealer charge.

Their pricing is good a/o my post date. $70 for refurb units is still a rip though - and they won't deal for multiple units.

I am sourcing alternates, but with one remote dead and another now gone missing I might just have to bite the bullet...

Be patient, I found my remotest on CL for 50 for the pair after searching a couple of months, then it took me a couple more months to actually figure out what part of the programming I did wrong, defintitly worth it though.
Pardon my spelling doing this on the damn phone
