Keyless entry remotes?

I recently bought a 2000 4Runner. The seller did not have the keyless remotes. Apparently there are two possible systems. A factory one and one for the VIP systems. The VIP system is installed, however when I run the program test for the factory system it indicates that it is still present. I would like to have the convenience of rolling down the back window that the factory remotes have. The VIP remotes do not have this option. Does anyone know if I would be able to program a factory remote? or do the dealers disable the factory system when they install the VIP upgrade?

excuse my ignorance...but VIP do you mean Viper alarms and such?

You can do the back window with a viper remote you just have to ad the window module to it.

VIP system

The VIP(Vehicle Intrusion Protection) or 3200 system I'm talking about is a Toyota security system usaully installed by the dealer as an upgrade.

The Fujitsu 10 VIP OEM alarm is usually installed on top of the the factory keyless entry. My O3 OEM keyless entry fob has the door lock/unlock button along with one to rolldown the rear window and a red panic button. I purchased and added the VIP system which uses those same fobs. My remote has the Yota 3 ring logo and DENSO on it. Perhaps you have a non OEM add on alarm that uses their remotes -- or the wrong remotes (my camry fob looks the same but the third button opens the trunk and has a picture of the trunk). You can use Fujitsu FAX back service to get operating and installation manual for their system. The alarm added horn/light flash and glass breakage alarm plus passive arming. I had an older 4Rnr that had a button on console to lock the rear window from going down - do you have that and is it pushed (assume this would prevent the fob from functioning).

FAX Back # 310 327-9905
For 2000 4Rnr try document # 01951 (RS3200) and 01961 (RS3200 Plus)

Thanks for your reply, Wolfgang.

At the moment I don't have a remote. I ordered one that is supposed to be for a 99' to 02' factory system. I'm hoping that like yours, this remote will work with or around the VIP system. I don't beleive the VIP system in my 2000 is a Fujitsu since the Toyota logo is on the dash mounted sensor. I'm glad to hear that they installed the VIP system on top of the factory system, though. This is the first positive answer I've gotten. Nobody seems to know if the factory system was disabled by the installation of the VIP system in my vehicle. Not even my local dealer who said they could check by going under the dash, but that I would have to make an appointment 6 weeks from now to find out. Anyways, thanks again for the input and I will post another reply after I have a definite answer. I beleive this could be useful knowledge for others.

On my 2 Yotas the fobs both have the yota symbol and don't say Fujitsu --- BUT Fujitsu does indeed make the OEM units (it was on the instructions and the black box under the dash). ('Cept Toyota's southern states region seems to install an off brand vice the OEM one). Either of the 2 manuals would tell you where to look for the components and how to program the remotes and test the system --- plus may give you the FCC code that needs to match the remotes. I actually installed them (the 3200 plus) on both vehicles. Wasn't difficult but entire dash came apart and then it plugs right in.

anyone else think its ridiculous that the dealer charger around $80 for one of those little remotes?? I was pretty upset....

Stealer? Get them off ebay for $10-20. You just have to get one with the same radio frequency number on it. Most new 4Rnrs are HYQ12BAN. That fits others like the Camry which would have a trunk picture vice the rear window. I don"t know where they all come from on ebay - guess when you trade vehicle in you keep them and the owners manual (or so it seems).

Keyless entry remotes

OK. Here's my story. After being given many different answers and many trials I found a solution. After ordering the remote that wolfgang described (the factory one with the 3 ring Toyota logo that says Denso with the red panic button: code HYQ1512Y), I found that even though the dealer installed the VIP 3200 system, that factory remote works for my vehicle. It not only locks/unlocks the doors but also can roll down the back window and control the VIP system. Even most of the remote dealers on the internet were telling me that I had to order the other remote which did not have the panic button or the option to roll down the back window. So anyways, hopefully this can help anybody else out there that's in my situation. I found the best deals for these remotes on E-bay. Thanks again for your help, Wolfgang.

same problem

Hey I am kinda in the same situation, bought the runner, no keyless entry fob. How would I know if there is one installed? any Ideas?

Thanks

Keyless entry

Ask any keyless entry fob dealer on the internet and they can tell you how to run a test for not only to see if you have keyless entry but also which remote you need. This test might also be posted in another forum.

Last year i had a viper alarm installed and I still have my toyota fob and if anyone wants it I can give it to you. Its just sitting on top of my fridge. Oh its from an 03 4R SR5.
