Keyless Entry

My 4Runner was heavily modified by its PO. This included converting power windows to cranks and disabling the rear window, among other things. He also changed the door locks so that the vehicle can only be locked from the passenger side, and unlocked from the driver side. I'm putting in power window switches soon, so I will be able to lock it a little bit easier.

What I want to know is:

How do I know if I have the capability to have keyless entry?
-(On my T100 there was a box under the driver's seat that housed the alarm control, and that was a pretty clear indicator

Are there multiple remotes for purchase, if so which is right?
-(the T100 had multiple; I would like the one with the capability to operate the rear window)

How do I know if my vehicle has an OEM alarm?

When I purchased my 02 last year I wondered the same thing. After Googling my question using the word “forum” in my question, I discovered that mine should have a keyless buzzer under the hood in the back passenger side corner near the firewall. Once I located it, I ordered two of the most common 3rd gen 4runner fobs on eBay and then programmed them using tutorials on YouTube. Was very easy, but haven’t been able to get the rear window programmed. Seems many people have the same back window issue, so not sure if it’s actually supposed to work with the fob or not? Buzzer location may differ between years, not sure.

I talked to the dealer and he wasn’t able to confirm that my 4Runner would be compatible. Does anyone have a hard and fast way of finding out? He did give me a part number if it is.
