keyless entry

Hey guys, I have a 2000 4cyl 5spd basemodel. I am dying for keyless entry, but im not sure if its possible. I read somewhere you need a particular box under the drivers seat. But i dont have anything under there. It just sucks when you valet and they look at you with funny eyes when you pull up in something nice w.o keyless entry

I have the keyless entry, I'll look under my seat when I get out of class and see if I have a box. I'm sure someone else knows more about the keyless entry system though and can give you better info.

Sounds like he's got the same setup as mine. I know I have the auto locks.

if you have auto locks already... you can get keyless entry... whether it be OEM toyota or a 3rd party like viper. If you dont already have OEM, id probably go with a 3rd party system (less $$ and more features).

If you DO NOT have auto locks already... then your in for a much bigger endeavor

I dont have a box under my seat and i have keyless entry option. I bought the truck used and it didnt come with remote but started doing some research and if you follow this code and your locks respond- you have the option:

The vehicle should be in the following conditions
1. The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
2. Drivers door is open (other doors are closed)
3. Drivers door is unlocked
Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder, then pull it out

Within 40 secs.
Press the door lock control switch (for manual operation) 5 times to LOCK/UNLOCK at approx. 1sec. Interval
1. Lock then unlock
2. Lock - unlock
3. Lock - unlock
4. Lock - unlock
5. Lock - unlock

Close the drivers door, then open it. Again press the door lock control switch (for manual operation) 5 times to LOCK/UNLOCK at approx. 1 sec. Interval
1. Lock - unlock
2. Lock - unlock
3. Lock - unlock
4. Lock - unlock
5.lock- unlock

Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder.
Turn the ignition switch from on to lock at approx. 1 sec. interval 1 to 5 times to select the mode.

Add Mode
ON - LOCK change occurs 1 times

Confirmation mode
ON - LOCK change occurs 3 times

Rewrite mode
ON - LOCK change occurs 2 times

Prohibition mode
ON - LOCK change occurs 5 times

Pull out the key plate from the ignition key cylinder
When add mode or rewrite mode is selected.
Body ECU automatically performs the LOCK-UNLOCK operation once or twice at 1 sec. interval to inform the operator that either the add mode or rewrite mode has been selected

LOCK-UNLOCK occurs once indicates that add mode has been selected
LOCK-UNLOCK occurs twice indicates that rewrite mode has been selected

Press the lock and unlock switches on the transmitter

DiD you try this on yours and have it work? What is the key plate in the ignition key cylinder? This is very interesting.

** here is one thats easier to read, yes it worked for me

1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle

a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)

2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try
to go relatively fast.

b. Close, then open the drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before).
b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.

b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then
UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If
the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps
6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.

c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will
operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters.

7. Close the driver door.

i have an aftermarket system from Viper I much enjoy. Remote start is always a blast too, not to mention rolling your windows up and down.
