Keyless remote entry...

My remote only unlocks the truck like %20 of the time, sometimes on the first try, sometimes I can stand right next to the door and push it 100 times and it still won't unlock. However, it locks everytime at any distance almost.

Should I get a new fob, or could it be the reciever in the truck? I took the key fob apart, it looked ok i guess....Still doen't work good.

Can I reprogram the extra set I have for my 4th gen to work on my 2000?

Its a pain in the ass, especially up here in the seattle area when it rains 24/7...

U need to change the battery.... I had this problem before and realized that it was the battery and once i changed it everything worked just fine.

New one from radio shack...doesn't make sense becuase I can lock it all day. And it still unlocks sometimes. I can hear the button clIicking.

ya lock works even if the button is running out though the unlock doesnt. I started to hate the stock alarm after i had this problem... I always wanted a viper and it was a good excuse for me to get one. If u have to u can always pick up a new remote and get the dealership to program it and tell them ur probs.

Keyless entry

If you do decide to get a new keyless entry remote, DO NOT buy it off the internet from Original Keyless. It took forever for me to get my remote and it was used and they never disclosed to me it was used. I had to contact the Better Business Bureau before they would ever do anything. Just FYI.

Thanks for the info.

remote

I would suspect your remote (I'm assuming you have the remote fob that has a separate lock and unlock buttons) but try locking and unlocking the car from inside using the buttons on the door to make sure there is not some other type of mechanical problem.

Best case is the switch is dirty. There are only two types of switches that are typically used. One is a surface mount switch and the other is actually just a couple of lines printed on the PCB and the rubber part of the button has conductive material that bridges the lines completing the circuit (almost all TV remotes use this now).

If you have an older type of switch, go back to the Shack and get some spray electrical contact cleaner. Take the remote apart again and spray it into the button while pressing the button repeatedly.

If you have the new style. Clean up the contacts with an eraser and alcohol.

Ya, I have the older style. I will try that, thanks.
