Keyless standard on limited?

More newbness. My '99 limited didn't come with any key fobs, but I'm almost certain it has keyless entry. It has the factory security light in the center dash.

So, I'm best off to buy some used fobs on eBay and re-program them, right? I assume there are re-programming instructions out there somewhere.

Yes, it should have an alarm. Also look under the drivers seat for the module.

I think it would be a good idea to buy them on Ebay first. I'm sure they are fairly cheap. The instructions are on this forum somewhere.

Ok I've looked and searched and came up with nothing I just bought on 02 with one remote and the dealer gave me another one but not programed. I got it out of state and felt lucky just to get a second remote. I would love to find a way to program it without using the dealer. Any suggestions:D
 
Remote programming

1. Start with the following conditions: you are seated in the vehicle
a. Key is out of the ignition.
b. Drivers door is open, all other doors are closed.
c. Drivers door is unlocked.
2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. cycle the power locks 5 times, evenly spaced and relatively fast.
b. Close, then open the drivers door.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. cycle the power door locks 5 times. (Same as before)
b. Turn the ignition to on, then back to off.
c. Turn the ignition to on, then back to off.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically) indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to STEP 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1 second.
b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle once indicating successful programming. If the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b - this remote has not been accepted.
c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for each transmitter that will operate this vehicle, including any old transmitters.
7. Close the driver door.
 
Ok Deep first of all let me start by saying thanks for the info. Will this work for the one remote that doesn't work and leave the other one alone or will it clear them both?

that was a lot to take in, but i think by what he is saying is that it will deactivate the one that works if you dont learn it into the system.
probably by getting into programming it erases all previous stored remotes.

just what im guessing, ive installed home security. wow home security is way easier haha
 
Just wanted to say thanks Deep and Dew for the help all went as stated its just that the dealer gave me the wrong remote so Ebay here I come. Thanks again guys:awais: :awais:
 
Thanks very much for the instructions! Now, has anyone actually tried these instructions, and do they work? :D

I only ask because I can get the fobs from the dealer (free), but I'd have to leave my truck there for them to program it. I'd rather just pick up my fobs and do the programming myself.

Yes I tried them and it worked just fine. Like I said I just got a wrong fob from the dealer. Freq didn't match
 
Hmmm, how did you know it worked if the frequency wasn't right?

Anyway, I'll give it a shot if they let me take the fobs without programming.

Alright, now I'm pissed!

I got the fobs from the dealer (they got 'em refurbished). They are the grey 2-button ones. I guess I thought I would be getting the black 3-button ones, but whatever.

Here's the problem. My 99 Limited is acting like it doesn't have keyless entry! Is this possible? It has every other option available!

I went through the programming instructions (both versions - the ones on this thread, and the ones the fobs came with), and the locks do not cycle, telling me the remotes are ready to be programmed.

I tried 5 times. Nothing.

I'm mad now. How can this truck not have keyless? There's nothing under the driver seat, there is a red LED in the top right of the center console that says "Security" under it, and I have the original stickers on the two front windows saying there is a Toyota security system. Wouldn't this mean it HAS to have keyless?

I'm stumped. If anyone has some advice, I'm all ears.

Just got off the phone with a very nice Toyota parts guy. I gave him my VIN and he checked the build option list. Keyless was NOT ON THE LIST.

Who configures a fully loaded vehicle and then leaves out keyless entry?

So, that explains why the locks aren't cycling, and why I have no box under the seat. But, what about the stickers on the window and the stock red LED in the center console? I'm still confused.

You can still have a car with a security system (in this case, it serves as an engine immobilizer) and not have key less entry. My 1991 Lexus had a security system (via a chip in the key itself) but no remote fobs for the door locks. Had to use the key every time. I didn't bother adding in aftermarket, since I wasn't planning on having the car for a long time

Looks like I'll be buying and installing an aftermarket keyless system. Suggestions anyone?

Viper 5900 or 5901 would be my first two. Not sure how much you want to spend though.

Supposedly keyless WAS standard on the 1999 limited model. According to Cars Direct.

Also, there were 2 alarm/keyless options. One is the Port-installed (or dealer-installed) RS3000 system...which is identified by "VIP" stickers on the windows and a black box under the driver seat...neither of which I have.

The other is the "factory installed" system. I'm assuming this is the one that my T4R would have come with...due to it supposedly being a standard on the '99 Limited.

So, how do I know if I have the factory-installed alarm? Is there an easy way to set it off? I see that this alarm has the 3-button remote (1 button for the rear window)...which would be cool to have.

Is there another location where the factory-installed alarm would be? I know the RS3000 would be under the driver seat, but the factory-installed alarm would probably be under the dash somewhere, I'm guessing.

More rambling, sorry. If anyone has any ideas, please fire away. I'd MUCH rather get the factory installed alarm/keyless working than wire in a new system.

I've always had good luck with a VIPER remote start system have them on 2 of my cars and love them.

Here's an easy way of getting your alarm to go off:

1. Put down the front windows
2. Lock and exit the car. Your "Security" light on the dash should light up for about a minute.
3. After the light goes off, pull up on the lock with your hand. The alarm should go off.

My friends have always done this to me, not on purpose, but it got frustrating haha:bash:

And definitely go for a three button fob. Also, there's a Panic button on the back so technically it's four buttons. Make sure you get the right frequency. I think the two options you have are HYQ1512Y or just HYQ1512. I am not positive about this though. It has something to do with how the fob interacts with the alarm system. It's like entering the wrong code into a universal tv remote if you have the key fob frequency incorrect. Hope this helps
