Keyless standard on limited?

More fun. I just talked to the other dealer in town, and they said that keyless WAS on the build list! So, now I've got to find it! He said his reference only showed the rear window relay, but not the location of the "brain". I will check in the center console and above the knee area. Oh, and i will perform the alarm test...thanks KellyJ!

If the previous owner ripped it out in favor of a different system, then I'm back to square one...but at least I will know that I have no alarm and no keyless.

Just make sure you are ready to unlock the door with the key asap... the alarm on mine is freaking LOUD! Maybe that's because I removed the baffles :D

OK, some small success! I did the alarm trick, and sure enough, the horn blows loud and clear! Scared me a bit...

So, I HAVE AN ALARM. Yay! Now all I need is some fobs for this alarm/keyless system, and a way to program it. So far I haven't seen program instructions for non-VIP systems.

Anywho...thanks to those for sticking with me through this, I know it's probably pretty boring watching me get all bent out of shape! :D

I have been following this thread with great interest . I have a 98 Ltd and it came with a key fob that unlocked the doors , its not a Toyota fob . Recently the fob died , I believe its the fob .
With the key in the door lock does anyone know if its factory to be able to unlock and lock all doors ? I can unlock the drivers door with one turn of the key ,if I do that twice it unlocks all doors , vise versa as well . I also have the security led in the center console .
For the factory black alarm/remote entry box , can you feel it under the carpet under the seat ? Or do you need to peel back the carpet to find that .

Appreciate any help

The DIO/PIO system (VIP RS3000) is a black box on top of the carpet, under the driver seat, with a wire harness coming out of it, heading under the carpet. This system's key fob has 2 buttons. If your fob has 3 buttons (lock, unlock, rear window), it's the factory alarm system that you have.

Ok thanks man . There is nothing under my seat on top of the carpet .

Oh ya , the old key fob sure wasnt Toyota . I thought it may have been a replacement fob thats all . I see you have a 99 , my first post that mentions about the unlocking sequences with the key , does yours do that too ? Once , drivers door will open and if you turn again all doors will unlock with key . Same with locking . Just more than curious if thats a factory thing or aftermarket thing ? Really I just want the keyfob system to work again , I have been to all the places that sell replacement fobs BUT ( just my luck) this is NO description or FCC ID anywhere on the outside or inside of the fob , which makes it a PIA to replace . Guess I will have to hunt down the box inside the truck somewhere.

Thanks

What does your key fob look like? Sounds like it might be aftermarket.

Yup, definitely aftermarket.

And the unlock sequence (using the key) is typical. Once for just driver door, twice for all doors. However, ALL doors should lock when you turn it to lock the first time. At least that's how it is on mine.

Thank you Deep_palancar for programming steps.

In the driver's manual T4R 2006, it have a chapter concerning programming of other options (like "Disable or Enable Automatic Door Lock" when changing the transmission on Park or on Drive).

Did you know where I can found programmings for all other options ?

Thanks in advance

Time for some closure on this.

After cleaning up what was left of a remote starter system that was installed and removed before I bough the truck, I found the "real" programming instructions for the factory-installed keyless entry system.

Basically, everything in post #4 of this thread is correct, with the addition that the lock/unlock cycle is to be performed in 1-second increments....this is a little easier to understand than just "relatively fast"...and it made all the difference.

I now have 2 remotes for the factory system, and they are programmed!

I'm glad this whole thing is over. Thanks everyone for your help!
