Keys, keys, keys!

Hi everyone ,

My daughter is 97 has three keys and this is driving her crazy. She has one for the door, one for the glove box, and one for the ignition. She asked if there's a way to turn all of this into a single key. So I'm asking the question here, what is the most cost-effective way to have a single key that does everything? She does not have a transponder.

I have a 4th gen, and the Land cruiser, and they both use one key for everything.

Easiest way it to remove all locks and take to a lock smith and have them rekeyed.

Or…..

Find someone parting out their rig and buy all the locks and install them.

If daughters Runner still has original locks I'd check into having a new key cut using VIN.
Last key I had cut I met a mobile locksmith to do a VIN cut key cost me $65.00
Smith can tell you what next step would be if locks are mixed keys.

Just a guess but I'd say something was replaced, like the ignition switch. Normally there are 2 keys for the pickup; glove box and everything else. I had an '89 and the gas filler area had a lock, same as the ignition however

I'm not sure you can change the door locks or ignition to match the keys.

Cheapest? Probably find somebody who is parting out a non-transponder 4Runner and get a fully key and lock set, then swap them out (DIY).

Still a pain, but likely also a reasonable price - find a good locksmith and take the 5 key cylinders to be re-keyed to the same pinning.

Otherwise, the dealer *might* still be able to get a full lockset new from Toyota.

Dealer calls them a "divorce key kit"......lol.

They were still available when I bought mine two years ago. They are kinda pricey, but I wanted all new parts and keyed alike so it was an easy decision. I can't even remember what they cost. 3-400$ I think for the complete kit I think? Any Toyota parts manager can find it for you with ease I'm sure.

It's a great kit and very complete. Includes it all.

Good locksmith is always a good option. But depending on the condition of the tumblers, that might be a fools errand.
 
Here's the part number for the key kit I got. Not sure if it matters, but mine was for a 99'.

69005-35430 is a full lock/key set if you can find it anywhere. It looks like it's been discontinued.
