KidV's 1985 4Runner

I can't go to Moab but I do need to get my rookie butt out in the '87. Hell, I've only driven it 100 miles or so since I've gotten it moving. No time like the present to see what's going to break, right?

It's got a small oil leak from a bolt on the water pump cover and another one just under the head, but I don't seem to be losing much oil. It's just being slung under the hood a bit and leaving small pools underneath when parked. I'm not sure if it could be the bolt coming down from the valve cover or if it's the HG. I hope the former.

I also don't trust my temp gauge as it always goes right to the middle upon start up and stays there. I've got some mechanical gauges but I haven't had time to install them.

The tires have maybe, and I'm using that term loosely, 50% tread. When aired down a bit, do you think they'd climb Mineral Basin?

33s and sliders, right? You can do Mineral for sure. If you don't have sliders yet there's one spot where your rocker might make friends with some granite, but everything else has bypasses.

Very used BFG A/T 33's, no sliders, BJ spacers up front, and the rear leafs and shocks you gave me. She already has some dents so I'm really not worring about making more. That's why we have hammers, right?

Oh man, I'd be in trouble if that was just up the road from me--TOY STORE!!

It is, too. The shelves inside are full of Corbeau seats and ARB compressors and winches and lights and builder parts, and the warehouse behind is even worse. I'm lucky they're almost an hour away.

I was in a hurry, but one of these days I'll take some pics of the rest of the parking lot. ;)

Maybe I am missing something, but what is in the box?

High steer, my good man. I'm about to double my front droop, shove my axle forward an inch or so, banish the risk of a broken j-arm, and lose the brake steer forever.

Now I'll just have to worry about snapping the knuckle studs on the passenger side :D, but a set of ARP studs will fix that.

pretty sure it's one of them adult toys.

You'll understand when you're older. :moon:

Depending on my days off and when you start putting this on the bastard I'm totally in for a drive up north to help you out with whatever

Good deal. It'll probably be the weekend of September 14th, I'll keep you posted. I'm hoping we can get a crew up and knock it out in a day.

I did get six stud arms, so shooters is a possibility down the road. With 33s and an unlocked diff I probably would be fine with the four stock studs - ARPs will give me a little extra piece of mind for a very minor investment.

I noticed that you are running ome rear springs. I am looking at running them possibly, how do they do with flex and offroad?

Stiff enough that the truck doesn't doesn't do that soggy sway back and forth thing over obstacles, flexy enough that I had to do some serious clearancing to stuff my 33s. I'm a total OME junky, I love them.

Keep in mind that I'm still running the stock steering in these pics. Once I have crossover installed and can remove the torque rod on the front axle, it's going to get even better.

How have they held up over time? Any "relaxing" or loss of arch? Hows the on road ride? I have it down to the ome or Chevrolet 63s

I've only had them since this last spring so I couldn't tell you from personal experience how they'll hold up, but OME has a good rep, I'm not worried.

I've never run Chevy/RUF, although I considered it. I have wheeling buddies with that setup, and it's my opinion that if they're set up right they can be much flexier than the OMEs that I've got and if you pick the right shocks they're decent on the road too, BUT can take a while to dial in depending on the state of the used springs that you put on and how many times you want to pull your spring packs apart to adjust the number of leaves. If you don't spend that time and just run whatever you get, they can be horribly stiff or stupidly flat or anywhere in between.

Hello BRAKES. Last weekend I rebuilt the rear drums and installed V6 calipers/Landcruiser rotors/braided stainless lines in front. What an amazing difference! I have a 1" MC and dual diaphragm booster to go in when I get around to it, but I'm suddenly in no hurry.

I found another leak that looks like the transfer case front output, but I think it's not too bad so I may leave that until after the Moab trip.
