Close, I was up a canyon west of the county road between Allen Ranch and Eureka.
Lemme see if I can do this right:

Holy SHIT are we there yet!! *I couldn't believe how far out he was!!
There were some trees above him so we were able to take his strap wrap the tree and hook Andrews winch to it.
Pulled him to this point where it actually held itself.
Once we got him here we tied the strap off to the tree as suppot so it wouldn't flop back, then hooked the winch to the front and pulled him down. *Kevin had to help guide the steering a little but really it did most of the work on its own.
And then to the tricky part, *Getting me and Andrew back down the super narrow, muddy road in reverse. *Andrew had a couple advantages over me. *First his tires, mine are not mud tires, second his back-up cam, mine is a rear view mirror, third he had my head lights so he could at least see the trail!! *That was one long ass trip backwards:evil:*:evil:*But glad we gould get him out in one piece.
Round trip Kevin got dropped off to me at 6:00pm, got to the truck at 8:00pm, had it on all 4 wheels by 8:30pm, hit my bed after a nice warm shower at 10:30pm!! *Not bad if you ask me

Finished cleaning up my gear today, and came across my lift-mate in the bottom of my recovery stuff, and now I'm mad. I couldn't get the hilift under the truck, but I could have gotten the lift-mate hooks in the top of the window behind the B pillar and used my hilift that way. Judging by the pic THardy posted of my truck back on four wheels but still at a 45* angle, I think I might have been able to get it to that point without winching at all. At that point I could have tied it off to the tree and maybe driven it out, or moved the hilift to the drivers side rear bumper and scooted it level.
I've thought of lots of little things I coulda-shoulda done since then. One more reminder to slow the hell down in an emergency and think stuff through.

On the bright side looking back on what happened you've been able to analyze everything and evaluate how you would be able to remedy the situation in the future. If we don't learn from history it will repeat itself.

You'd be fine with the sway bar off, that was one of the first things I did with my last truck.

I didn't have any swaybars on my last monster, and it did fine--just remember that you're not in a sports car when approaching curves (LOL). Yeah, it swayed on the road, but it also articulated really well OFF the road. Unless you want to engineer some quick releases like those Jeep guys get handed to them by the aftermarket (they get all the good toys first!).

Yep. Mines off too. It does have body roll, but still would handle like a truck even with one installed. Keep that in mind, and you'll be fine.

welcome to the flop clup kid, glad everyone's ok. cold weather wheeling always makes me nervous cuz it adds a lot of potential danger when things don't go right.

I decided I'm tired of having my tire in my bed. I scrounged some metal from friends, picked up some more from the remnants bin at Metal Supermarkets, swapped some parts for some time on a buddies plasma table, and got started yesterday.
The plan is a vertically swinging hitch-mounted tire carrier, with brackets to hold my hilift, shovel, and axe. There will be tension lines with turnbuckles from the top of the carrier to the ends of the bumper, to take most of the slop out of the system. It'll hinge on a half inch bolt (I grabbed one with just enough shoulder that I'll be able to get away with no bushings, and I'll trim the excess threads eventually) and uses a 1/2inch pin to hold it upright. It'll swing all the way to the ground.
Progress is slow because I'm a shitty fabricator, so I'm measuring everything four or five times and I still end up going back and redoing bits here and there. Here's where I'm at so far - this is all fitting fine at this point, so I'm gonna tack this up and get started on the upright next.
