My understanding is Engo was started by a corporate honcho who bailed from Milemarker to found his own company. It placed really well against the Warn 9.5xp in this test, which is a winch over three times the price.
I would have preferred a Warn, but I don't think their VR line is as reliable as the rest of them, and the next step up wasn't in the budget. The Engo 10000 pound winch with synthetic was only a couple dollars more than the Warn VR8000 with cable, so I went with Engo. Hopefully I don't regret it.

The VR10000 is what I've been planning to get once I get around to adding a winch, specifically with the synthetic line. That's always subject to change, of course. I haven't heard anything bad about Engo yet, and they're certainly more affordable.

I am out of the loop. Several of those winch brands in the linked test are new to me. I had a Warn XD9000 back in the 90's that had no issues the very few times I used it.
After reading that test, I think I'd be inclined to go with the Engo as well, especially for the price.

I don't remember if I decided to do this before or after I saw it on @CAN-03runner's truck, but I always knew I wanted to give it a shot if I ever bought a Trailgear bumper mount.
So I did. I hacked up the stock brackets, welded them to the side of the winch mount, chopped the bumper in half and bolted it on. I'll get some pics of how they're fixed to the mount when I pull it back off for paint. I wish I hadn't trimmed the grill so high, I might start looking around for another one and try that again.
That'll do until I get around to building a proper bumper. Anybody wanna sell me a pair of bumper caps? :hopeful:

Fer shure. I need to beef up the front spring hangers too, so I'm plotting on killing two birds with one stone there.
What kind of frame bracing you talking about? The frame brace like the 4xinnovations in the front? between the frame the winch mount or some other location.
I'm glad I have that 4xI front brace. You need one of these. This weekend my little runner, winched up an FJ Cruiser straight up a hill. about 75ft of winch cable spooled out, and 3 tow straps with and FJ hanging on the end of it. I'm sure that front brace had a roll to play in my winch plate not flying out. My front end would flex down under the heavy load.

Yeah, I want to plate the front crossmember and hopefully tie it back to the frame and down into the spring hangars. I've got a neighbor with a plasma table, so I'm probably not going to order the 4xI plate, but it'll be something like that.

Wow! I am jealous as hell that you can just go "screw around in Moab" on any given Friday afternoon. I swear when I retire I am headed that way. 4 more years baby.

Little Moab, about two and half hours closer than Big Moab
. It's a random chunk of slickrock sticking out of the ground down on the south side of Utah Lake. The BLM has it set up as an open-travel area. Not much for scenery really, but it's a great place to trial your truck and work out bugs. It's packed with obstacles from mild to wild.You'd better have another first gen before you move out here though, or I'm not going to show you any trails.
Like hell I'm not.

Exactly what we were doing! The last time that truck saw dirt it was IFS with cruiser springs and spacers, now it's a waggy front and three-quarter elliptical rear, it seemed to work pretty good. He's got a build thread here on T4R too.

I haven't mounted the control box yet, but it's going to hang off my battery box next to the alternator. The box is well sealed, so it's mostly an aesthetic choice. If I trimmed the grill higher or mounted the winch farther forward of the crossmember I could mount it on top of the winch and it would be fine, but I didn't like the way it looked there.

Awesome!! I have the same trailgear mount I just need a light bar mount for my light bar also.
