So I have owned a few 1st gen 4runner and tacomas. I bought this 4th gen when we had r first kid. It already had a 2 inch spacer lift borla exhaust, pro comp wheels and 285 tires that where new. I forgot to say I work at a toyota dealership. I've always wanted always kind expedition vehicle/ hunting truck and tk pull my boat. After putting new brakes and calipers on it. So I sold my tacoma and started looking for a roof top tent and found one one craigslist that the guy had only opened up one time and never used it.
It is a cvt mt Rainer with annex and awning for 1400 so I bought it.
I'm going tomorrow to a local guy to have a swing out bumper built out of aluminum and ordering shocks all the way around. There is other things I'm going to do but since I just had my first kid this will b a slower build. Going to make my own roof rack out of 1x1 box tubing and then mount tent. Hopefully I will b camping real soon with it.

I started building a roof rack to mount in factory rails. I have an idea that I think will work but going to build to find out.

I have never opened up a roof top tent or seen one in person till today

I opened it up sitting on my dually and I'm super happy with how big it is.

I also went and talked to a bumper guy near me called rlc fabrication he does amazing work and he is going to build me a aluminum rear bumper with swing out but it will take about 4 weeks so super excited to get that. It's slow its I'm getting there. My wife also got me some presents for camping.

So I started working on a roof rack using the factory rails last night. I cut and squared it all up .

Then I made brackets using 3/8 bolts with the heads cut off. I drilled a piece of flat stock and slid the bolts in and welded them so they could slid into the factory rail.

I then cut a piece of expanded steel and welded it onto the 1x1 box

I used spray on bed liner and painted the whole thing. It's not perfect but it does work. Haven't put it on cause I was waiting for the paint to dry will have picks of it on tomorrow and hopefully my roof top tent mounted

Well I got the rack mounted

I might have to redo and lift it a little higher because it's hard to get roof top tent on but I fid get it on. It was a little harder to get mounted then I thought. But I got it on and I am happy with it. I know getting it back off will not b fun.

I made some brackets and bolted the awning on. Hopefully I'll b using it all real soon.

Guy on cragslist bought it and never used it so I bought it from him

I got my led light bar in that I ordered. It's a 32 inch light bar with rocker switch off amazon. I figured y not for as cheap as it was I'll try it. It feels well built but we will c.

Eyourlife that's the same brand light bar I bought. So far so good. I ended up taking the end caps off and adding some extra silicone and other places just for extra insurance for it to be water tight. But so far no trouble after about a month of use in rain and snow.

Yea I like it looks well built but I have to built brackets tonight to mount it because the ones that came with it won't work where I want it

So I did some measuring and cut brackets with my plasma cutter then welded some square of the bottom to b able to drill through and now waiting for the paint to dry. Going to mount them tomorrow

Then light bar is mounted and hooked up and I'm happy with it. Waiting till tonight to see how bright it really is
